17:40 – Sahara Kitten

SAHARA KITTEN is bred to be a precocious sort with plenty of speed on the dam’s side of his pedigree. He is out of a mare who won over five furlongs as a two-year-old, while his half-brother was also a winning juvenile. Bought for $65,000 as a yearling, he is with a yard well capable of readying a newcomer and could be worth siding with in a novice where those with previous experience haven’t offered much to work on.

18:15 – Sub Rose

SUB ROSA showed improved form when filling the runner-up spot on her most recent outing at Lingfield, travelling strongly at the head of affairs and keeping on well when challenged to be beaten just a short head. That form sets the standard in this line-up and it’s not out of the question that she may yet have more to offer after just three starts. Trained by Roger Varian, she is certainly in the right hands and this looks a straightforward opportunity for her to get off the mark.

18:45 – Na Scoitear

NA SCOITEAR got back on track when equipped with blinkers for the first time at Wetherby last week, holding every chance entering the final furlong before his effort flattened out. He was still beaten only two and a quarter lengths to show that he arrives here in good nick, unlike several of his rivals. It remains to be seen whether the blinkers will continue to have the right effect, but he is worth the benefit of the doubt from the same mark as when scoring at Southwell in April.

19:15 – Hiya Maite

HIYA MAITE has looked an improved model on his last two starts, first winning by two lengths at Wetherby in April and then running at least as well in defeat from a 6 lb higher mark when finishing third at Thirsk the following month. He passed the post just a length and a quarter behind the winner on the last occasion, sticking to his task well having been prominent throughout. A likeable type, he is still on a workable mark on that evidence and should continue to give a good account.

19:45 – Strongbowe

STRONGBOWE returned to form with a good third at Carlisle last month, producing easily his best effort this season to pass the post just a length behind the winner. The first three pulled clear of the rest and Strongbowe certainly showed enough to suggest he is coming to the boil. Crucially, he is 1lb lower in the weights and back in a 0-75 today, so just a repeat of the form he showed at Carlisle will give him every chance of regaining the winning thread.

20:15 – Clotherholme

CLOTHERHOLME took a step back in the right direction when finishing third on his latest outing at Catterick, running on well from mid-division to be beaten just three quarters of a length at the line. He seems to come good at this time of year and 12 months ago he won this race from 4 lb higher in the weights. That makes it an easy case to make for him from a handicapping viewpoint, especially as his Catterick run suggests he is about to hit top form.

20:45 – Out Of Sight

OUT OF SIGHT wasn’t seen to best effect when finishing fourth at Bath last time, doing very well under the circumstances to get within a length and a half of the winner having met a bit of trouble at a crucial stage of the race. He finished well once in the clear and it’s not stretching the imagination to suggest he might have won had he got the breaks sooner. Lining up today from the same mark, he appeals as very much the one to beat as he tries to gain compensation.
