JE NE SAIS QUOI offered something to work on when third at Ascot on debut and built on that to get off the mark at Thirsk, where she proved well suited by the step up to six furlongs. The form Je Ne Sais Quoi showed at Thirsk is the best on offer and she remains capable of better, so she is the one to side with.
The speedy COPPER KNIGHT goes well at Chester and registered a third course-and-distance success when landing this event last season. He’s been below that level since but has been given a chance by the handicapper and it would be no surprise were he to launch a bold bid from this career-low mark.
BOX TO BOX enjoyed a productive campaign last season, winning three times, including twice at this venue. He failed to fire in Bahrain over the winter, but offered some encouragement when sixth on his return over course and distance last month and is entitled to be sharper for that outing. He is back down to his last winning mark and looks worth siding with.
TAFREEJ showed run-by-run improvement as a juvenile, getting off the mark in good style at Yarmouth on his third outing. He has had to settle for minor honours on both starts in handicaps this term, finishing third at Newbury and filling the same position at Goodwood, but he wasn’t seen to best effect on either occasion and gives the impression that he’s on a fair mark. He can take a step forward here.
CAPONE was last successful in a handicap hurdle for Charlie Mann at Uttoxeter in 2020 but he has been lightly raced since then and has gone close on two of his three starts for Dominic Ffrench Davis, including over course and distance last time. He ought to go well off the same mark here.
All three of ROMAN DRAGON‘s wins have been achieved at this course, with the last of them coming off a 4 lb higher mark last summer. He ended last season out of form and also made little impact on his return here last month, but he took a step back in the right direction at Haydock last time and he can launch a bold bid from a handy draw in stall two.
HAARAR ran respectably when third at Ripon last time, though he was rather caught out when the tempo lifted and would have been better suited by a stronger gallop. He gives the impression that he’s capable of winning from this sort of mark.
