Matt Chapman’s Horse Racing tips
14.00 – York – Kihavah
14.15 – Sandown – Baltimore Boy (each-way)
14.35 – York – Fortamour (each-way)
14.50 – Sandown – Great State
15.05 – York – Quickthorn
15.20 – Chester – Man Of Eden
15.40 – York – Chasseral
14.00 – York – Kihavah
ITV Saturday kicks off here at York with a handicap here for amateur female jockeys over 1m4f. KIHAVAH is up 5lb for a success at York two runs ago – has since been over jumps – and that might stop him in a field where not all the big chances are strong stayers. My hope goes on fast ground, gets the trip well and is well drawn in stall 6 to get a good early position.
14.15 – Sandown – Baltimore Boy (each-way)
ITV also show racing from Sandown Saturday starting here with a handicap over 1m. BALTIMORE BOY is a big price but has a lovely draw and an each-way chance for Michael Bell and Hector Crouch. The son of Starspangledbanner was a fair fourth at Ascot when last seen in May and having dwelt at the start that day never had a chance to show what he can do. On that run he’s got an equal chance to Helm Rock so might be some value.
14.35 – York – Fortamour (each-way)
A handicap over 7f. This is wide open. FORTAMOUR might be better at 6f than 7f but has plenty of decent York form and is well handicapped for Ben Haslam and Paul Hanagan. It has to be seen if stall 1 is a positive but my hope was not disgraced ate this track two runs ago behind Eligible and didn’t get a clear run that day. He’s down 1lb and has each-way claims.
14.50 – Sandown – Great State
Here’s the Listed Scurry Stakes over 5f. GREAT STATE won’t be much value but has a great chance of getting a hat-trick up for Oisin Murphy and Richard Fahey. The Thirsk and York winner is all speed and has a real finishing kick so can come home too strongly for his rivals here.
15.05 – York – Quickthorn
Up in class for the Listed Grand Cup over 1m6f. QUICKTHORN must surely be hard to catch for Hughie Morrison and Jason Hart. My selection goes with juice in the ground but also acts on a faster surface and was impressive here last season in the Lonsdale. He wasn’t disgraced in the Yorkshire Cup and this is a drop in grade.

15.20 – Chester – Man Of Eden
ITV bring us one from Chester in this handicap over nearly a mile. MAN OF EDEN should run a big race here for Harry and Roger Charlton even though his draw could be a little better. Kevin Stott’s mount gets stall 6 and comes here on the back of a fourth at Goodwood where he didn’t get a clear run and should have been much closer. Hard to stop.
15.40 – York – Chasseral
A handicap over 6f. Very tough race. CHASSERAL is interesting for Andrew Balding and Hayley Turner. We have to hope stall 22 is not a hindrance but other than that the daughter of Exceed and Excel appears to have every chance after a fair third at Haydock last time. She goes off the same mark here and should have more improvement to come.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
