I don’t see any reason to oppose KIHAVAH who won well at York last time and has had a run over hurdles at 2m4f and won at Market Rasen since. Has a strong gallop and should stay further than this. I’ll side with Jodie Townend and Kihavah.
14:15 Sandown – Repertoire
I gave Dutch Decoy a good shout at Epsom last time and he ran well but when I watched the replay of that race my eye was taken by REPERTOIRE, who missed the break on that occasion. He got stuck in a pocket and only got running in the last 1/2f and finished 6th. I think Repertoire, in theory, could turn the form on Dutch Decoy and that probably gives him a chance.
14:35 York – Admiral D (each-way)
This is a really hard race to sort out. Gweedore looks like a Scottish specialist up at Ayr and Musselburgh. Scottish Summit won last time but he is a 10-year-old and is up 4lbs for that run. Darkness is yet to win a race but I think ADMIRAL D, at a price, definitely has a chance. He was poor at Ascot in the Victoria Cup but that was an easy one to excuse. In a really trappy race I’ll go for Admiral D each-way.
14:50 Sandown – Great State
I fancy GREAT STATE. He won on good ground, beating Pillow Talk at York, and I think over 5f he might be too quick for the rest.
Quickthorn ran really well at York on his last start in the Yorkshire Cup. He did get hampered late in that race and got beaten by a pair that are going to run in next week’s Ascot Gold Cup. I think that form’s strong enough so I’ll go with QUICKTHORN to hold off Israr.
15:20 Chester – Sophia’s Starlight
SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT drawn in stall two, made all to win in Wetherby and quickened off the front end. There are a lot of horses who like to come off the pace here and I thought from stall 2 she could get onto the rail and maybe control things from the front.
15:40 York – Garner
I fancy GARNER. He only had the three runs under his belt but I thought he was really impressive at Lingfield last week. He quickened up really well, hit the line strong, and is drawn in stall four here. He can handle the ground so it’s Garner.
