The last two runnings of this fillies’ maiden have gone to a newcomer and there are some interesting types making their debut here, with What A Question and She Wore No Jewels a couple who stand out. Market support for any of those racing for the first time should be heeded, but SHIRLASKI is taken to build on her fifth of seven on her Ascot debut last month. The form of that race could hardly be working out any better.
This looks a good opportunity for the progressive LUCKY FIFTEEN to follow up his recent Chelmsford success. He has a 6lb penalty to carry, but is still 3lb well in compared to his revised mark. Pink Lily is much more exposed, but she has been going well lately and looks the best alternative.
Last month’s Salisbury second and fourth, Wilderness and Crescent Lake, are worthy of consideration as is Songo, who was beaten miles in that race but had an excuse. State Of Bliss looks interesting back on the Flat off what looks a tempting mark, but RAVENS ARK (NAP) can prove the answer. Hughie Morrison’s gelding is 3lb lower than when just beaten in this race last year and only found a subsequent winner too good off this mark on last month’s Ascot return.
Miss Mai Tai came good for James Fanshawe 17 days ago and is respected but one with more potential is FLYING BARTY, who shaped with significant promise when placed on last month’s seasonal/stable debut at Bath. Puffable makes her debut for Alice Haynes and is also of interest.
It’s hard to see beyond Andrew Balding’s colt FAIRBANKS, who has displayed huge improvement since switched to handicaps and remains well treated under a 6lb penalty for last week’s wide-margin success at Leicester. The other two 3yos, Golspie and Bulldog Spirit, both have a fair bit going for them but the main threat to the selection may come from Reina Del Mar.
Man Of Eden did not enjoy the run of the race when a keeping-on fourth over same course and distance three weeks ago and can go close if he enjoys better luck this time, but MONTY BAY was pretty impressive when coming from the back of the field to win a 7f Chepstow maiden cosily a fortnight ago and his opening handicap mark might underestimate him. Rawyaan and Cancan In The Rain are others to consider.
