Antiphon is an intriguing runner as, judged on pedigree, he’s done well to be as effective as he is over sprint trips. If the step up to 1m helps him then he should go well, while Lion’s Dream and Diamondonthehill also have something to recommend them. FANTASY BELIEVER returned to form when second at Newmarket last month though and he can go one better under suitable conditions.

Crowning sets a fairly good form standard with her 2yo debut but that was on soft ground and we haven’t seen her again since, while the addition of headgear is another imponderable. John and Thady Gosden’s newcomer Full Regalia (second choice) has a very nice pedigree and her stablemate Berthe Morisot also looks interesting on paper but perhaps the answer will be LITTLE HUG, who made a very encouraging seasonal debut over C&D six weeks ago.

Sparkling Red might gain a considerable tactical advantage if allowed to dominate this small field from the front but THE THAMES BOATMAN was placed off today’s mark in a competitive, 18-runner race at York last month and is the suggestion.

16:00 Gearing’s Point (NAP)

Gilbert kept on gamely to win at Windsor nine days ago but GEARING’S POINT (nap) was only two necks away in third, having been denied a clear run, and Sheena West’s mare has a pull in the weights here. Lailah, a possible improver over today’s longer trip, is next on the list.

16:30 Seraphia

John and Thady Gosden’s filly Rebecca West is open to significant improvement on today’s handicap debut but the form of her Brighton third a fornight ago looks somewhat flimsy and preference is for SERAPHIA, who posted a sound effort when placed in a first-time visor at Leicester. Time In Motion struggled to get competitive over 6f/7f in her qualifying races and is 7lb wrong for this handicap debut but today’s longer trip may show her in a much better light and she’s one to watch in the betting.

17:00 Lilkian

Andromedas Kingdom is better than she could show on her stable debut and is respected with Billy Loughnane booked, while Global Romance will come good at some point, probably when more prominent in the market. Porfin, Areille and Tomshalfbrother have something to recommend them but LILKIAN might be worth chancing. His turf form lags well behind his AW best but he’s handicapped accordingly and has had few chances on fast ground.
