14:10 – Bollin Margaret

BOLLIN MARGARET caught the eye two starts back and she was well supported to resume winning ways at Thirsk last week. It was very hard not to be impressed by that success, making steady headway from four furlongs out and still on the bridle when entering the lead around two furlongs from home. Bollin Margaret stormed clear in the style of a mare back at the top of her game and she will be very hard to beat turned out under a 5lb penalty. C’mon Kenny, who won at Pontefract on Monday, is feared most.

14:40 – Shagpyle

SHAGPYLE is a half-sister to the same connections’ Pyledriver and she looked potentially smart when making a winning debut at Ascot last month. It may not have been the strongest race for the track, but she overcame the run of the race and hit the line strongly, leaving the impression she had much more to offer. The step up in trip now will also be in her favour and she is expected to win again before having her sights raised further. Truthful also made a winning start and isn’t taken lightly for respected connections.

15:15 – Action Plan

All but one of these are newcomers so the market will likely reveal plenty, though the Karl Burke-trained ACTION PLAN makes plenty of appeal on paper and represents a yard enjoying a fine season with their juveniles. His first-season sire has also made a fast start and it will be interesting to see how Action Plan fares in the market. Watcha Matey is entitled to come on for his debut, while Lake Forest is another newcomer to note.

15:50 – State Of Desire

STATE OF DESIRE cost 400,000 guineas as a yearling and was all the rage in the betting ahead of his debut at Yarmouth three weeks ago, but he seemed more in need of the run than his starting price might have suggested. However, he was far from knocked about, so seems sure to have learnt plenty from the experience, while he will also appreciate this step up in trip. There are a host of interesting newcomers in opposition, though, including Serenity Dream and By The Book, both of whom demand market attention.

16:20 – The Toff

This looks an open handicap but preference is for THE TOFF, who gained his breakthrough success on the all-weather at Lingfield in April and he ran a cracker when finishing third in a course and distance handicap last time. He was only headed close home that day and the form is working out, so he looks the most solid option given he is racing from the same mark now. Doncaster third Drafted is feared most now the cheekpieces go back on with Seagrave Fox, Concert Boy and Renesmee completing the shortlist.

16:50 – Chorus Line

CHORUS LINE showed ability on her debut last season but she didn’t progress as expected on her next two starts. However, she attracted support on her return from seven months off on handicap debut at Leicester two weeks ago and she duly showed improved form to open her account. She prevailed by a neck but she had plenty more in hand than the bare margin suggests, running down one who had the run of the race and displaying a nice turn of foot. A subsequent 3lb rise almost certainly underestimates her and she is a confident selection to follow up. Well-bred pair Alice Knyvet and Regal Fanfare appeal as probable improvers now handicapping.

17:20 – Coverdale

COVERDALE is very much on the progressive path right now, showing the benefit of a gelding operation and step up to a mile and a quarter when opening his account at Redcar last month. He barely needed to improve to follow up under a 6lb penalty, but that came on much more testing ground, and he remains a lightly-raced three-year-old to be positive about from just 2lb higher. He’s preferred to the well-bred Greek Order, who is also going the right way, and should relish this step up in trip.
