14:10 – Sky Wizard

SKY WIZARD shaped well when finishing third on his debut at Windsor a couple of weeks ago, ultimately passing the post a length behind the winner having been up with the pace throughout. That form sets a good standard in this line-up and there should be more to come from him with the run under his belt. A few interesting newcomers feature among the opposition in this novice event, but Sky Wizard rates a solid selection to get off the mark at the second attempt.

14:40 – Likleman

LIKLEMAN has a useful pedigree being by Footstepsinthesand and a half-brother to the two-time winner Koy Koy. Charlie Johnston is well capable of readying a newcomer and the yard couldn’t be in better form having sent out 16 winners from 82 runners (20% strike rate) in the last 14 days. The booking of Oisin Murphy also catches the eye, so Likleman gets the vote to make a winning debut in what doesn’t look the deepest novice event on paper.

15:10 – Princess Naomi

PRINCESS NAOMI ran another solid race over this course and distance last month, filling the runner-up spot for the second start in a row since winning at Bath in April. She was beaten just a length and a quarter on the last occasion and that is proving a strong piece of form (winner and fourth both won next time). That suggests Princess Naomi could still be one step ahead of the handicapper from just a 2lb higher mark, appealing as very much one to keep on the right side.

15:40 – Equatorial

EQUATORIAL made a promising start to his career when beaten just a short head at Doncaster in April, only losing out close home having looked the likeliest winner (hit a low of 1.25 in-running on the Betfair Exchange) when produced to lead in the final furlong. Though unable to match that effort at Newbury last time, he shaped like the run would bring him on again and just a repeat of the form he showed on debut will put him right in the mix here.

16:10 – Lordsbridge Girl

LORDSBRIDGE GIRL wasn’t seen to best effect when finishing third at Yarmouth on Thursday, doing well to be beaten only three and a quarter lengths having looked unsuited by the drop back to seven furlongs. That first run for four months is likely to have blown the cobwebs away and the return to a mile today will be in her favour, too. Steadily progressive on the all-weather over the winter, she is worth another chance to pick up where she left off now faced with more suitable conditions.

16:40 – Liable

LIABLE still looked green when finishing third on his latest outing at Yarmouth, but that was a big improvement on his debut effort regardless, running on late under a hands-and-heels ride to pass the post only two and a half lengths behind the winner. That form puts him right in the mix in this maiden and his scope for more improvement identifies him as the one to beat for Sir Michael Stoute, who has his team in good nick (82% of horses running to form).

17:10 – Spring Fever

SPRING FEVER showed improved form when making a successful handicap debut at Redcar two weeks ago, proving well suited by the step up to a mile and a quarter as she asserted late on to win by a length and a quarter in comfortable fashion. The manner of that victory suggests she was full value for a 7lb rise in the weights, arguably deserving a bit of extra credit having been forced to wait for a gap entering the final two furlongs.

Still totally unexposed after just four starts, Spring Fever is fancied to take another step forward to make it two from two in handicaps.

17:45 – Spring Glow

SPRING GLOW shaped as if needing the run after six months on the sidelines when finishing sixth at Newbury last time, fading in the final furlong having taken a strong hold. That was also her first start for the William Knight yard (formerly trained by Andrew Balding) and it will be no surprise if she proves a different proposition with the outing under her belt. Now down to a British Horseracing Authority mark of 68, she was placed off 75 just last year and should be winning races for her new stable before too long.
