13:15 – Haydock – Equilateral
ITV Saturday gets under way here with a Listed race over 5f. Quite an open race on paper. EQUILATERAL is not always easy to predict but he has the class to beat this lot even at the age of eight. The Charlie Hills runner, ridden by Frankie Dettori, ran pretty well when second to Dramatised in the Temple Stakes here and if repeating that should be up to this task.
13:50 – Haydock – Silver Samurai (each-way)
Here’s a handicap over 6f. Another tricky contest. It’s some time since SILVER SAMURAI ran on a surface this fast but when he did he finished a fine third in a big field behind Summerghand at York off 2lb higher. My selection was not disgraced two runs ago at Newmarket for Marco Botti and must have an each-way chance for Ben Curtis if bringing his A game. Was never sighted at York last time.
14:05 – Beverley – Midnight Affair
ITV also go to Beverley Saturday for the Hilary Needler Conditions Stakes for 2yo over 5f. Hard to get away from MIDNIGHT AFFAIR who is reasonably drawn in stall 6. The Richard Fahey-trained filly ran really well on debut at Newmarket when second to Soprano and if she has just come on a little bit the daughter of Dark Angel should be hard to stop under Danny Tudhope.
14:25 – Haydock – Forza Orta
A handicap over 1m4f. If you thought the card was hard up until now, well it doesn’t get any easier. FORZA ORTA has been on soft ground plenty since a win on a fast surface at York and he might enjoy this better surface. The Kevin Ryan inmate is on a mark of 86 which is workable and Cam Hardie will be doing the driving. Wasn’t totally disgraced at York last time in seventh off 1lb higher.
14:40 – Beverley – United Front
Here’s a handicap over nearly 1m. UNITED FRONT is much better on the all-weather but has every chance of a bold show here under Oisin Murphy for Mick Appleby. My hope – rated 81 on turf but last running on the artificial off 95 – ran a fair second at Yarmouth when last seen and draw two will certainly help on this tight right-handed course.

15:00 – Haydock – Time Lock
The Group 3 Lester Piggott Stakes over 1m4f. I’m a huge fan of TIME LOCK and hopefully she can spark a revival for the Harry and Roger Charlton stable that has been very quiet. The giant daughter of Frankel was a fine second at Goodwood last time even though I thought she would win that day and gets Ryan Moore on top here and 5lb from Mimikyu. She also might enjoy getting back on a fast surface.
15:15 – Beverley – Bombay Bazaar
The Two-Year-Old Trophy over 5f. I’ll stick with BOMBAY BAZAAR in a hard heat to have a strong view. Richard Fahey trains the son of Kodiac who was beaten on debut at Thirsk but then came to this track last time and came through strongly despite being a bit short of room at halfway. Hopefully he will have improved again and goes under Oisin Orr.
15:35 – Haydock – The Wizard Of Eye
Another Group 3 here in the John Of Gaunt over 7f. The Astrologist might be better at 6f despite a win at Ascot in Australia over 7f and I’m happy to chance THE WIZARD OF EYE to possibly steal this from the front for Kieran Shoemark and Stan Moore. My hope never got involved in the Lockinge at Newbury last time but this small field gives him the opportunity to make all as he did when last winning at Kempton.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
