14:10 – Azahara Palace

AZAHARA PALACE showed enough on her debut three weeks ago to suggest she can win a small maiden against her own sex and Hughie Morrison looks to have found just such an opportunity for her here. Azahara Palace was one of just three newcomers in a valuable fillies’ maiden at Windsor and showed some potential in running on to finish eighth behind High Spirited in a race where it was difficult for those held up to get involved. She’s sure to progress, while Ludden Lass and Scramble, in particular, are more exposed but need considering.

14:45 – Hellenista

HELLENISTA hit winning form for Tim Easterby this time last year at Ripon and Redcar and is now on a mark below the one she ran off for the second of those wins. She looks ready to strike again soon judging from her run at Carlisle last week when running her best race for a while to finish three quarters of a length second to Two Auld Pals, so she receives the vote. Top weight Fred Bear, a winner at Salisbury last time, and Victoriano, another successful last time out at Wolverhampton, are a pair of credible rivals.

15:20 – Fiftyshadesofred

FIFTYSHADESOFRED was picked off only late on in a well-run race at Ayr last time and looks ready to strike for Kevin Frost. Wearing a hood for the first time and making the running in a change from usual tactics, Fiftyshadesofred was headed in the final furlong before finishing a length and three quarters third to Rory who has followed up since. It’s interesting that his trainer has booked the services of the winning jockey at Ayr, 7 lb claimer William Pyle, for the mount here. Last-time-out winners Surprise Picture and Mutanaaseq, the latter successful over course and distance, head the dangers.

15:55 – Lets Go Hugo

Just the five runners for this five-furlong dash for three-year-olds. LETS GO HUGO, off the mark over course and distance last summer, returned to form for Ollie Pears back on turf when runner-up at Redcar last time and is the percentage call to go one better from the same mark. He attracted support beforehand and helped set the pace before going down by a length and a half to Zuffolo. Dark Crusade made the frame in both his visits to Catterick last year and makes his seasonal return; with Paul Midgley’s yard amongst the winners, he’s feared most.

16:30 – Live In The Moment

LIVE IN THE MOMENT was backed into favouritism for the “Dash” at Epsom last week but he didn’t get the chance to justify the support as his stall was one of several that opened late, so he’s well worth another chance back down in class. His best effort since joining Alice Haynes came at Doncaster on his previous start when beaten a short head by The Green Man. Mid Winster was a bit disappointing at Thirsk three weeks ago but she recorded an excellent timefigure when scoring over course and distance a year ago so could well bounce back returned to this venue.

17:05 – Robusto

ROBUSTO was strong in the betting upped markedly in trip and unsurprisingly left his previous efforts well behind to get off the mark on his handicap debut for Sir Mark Prescott at Salisbury on his reappearance two weeks ago. Open to further improvement after beating Graham three quarters of a length there and now fitted with cheekpieces, he can defy a 5lb rise at the main expense of Cloud Angel, who was a close-up third to the selection that day and is now 5lb better off. Recent Redcar runner-up A Day To Dream is best of the others.

17:40 – Quercus

A trappy sprint handicap to end the card, with a tentative vote going to the Ann Duffield-trained bottom-weight QUERCUS who goes well at this track and was a narrowly-beaten second three times over this course and distance last summer. This is his first visit to Catterick this year and he looks ready to hit top form again judged on his latest fourth to Hurstwood at Ripon. Lezardrieux, who landed his third course-and-distance success last month, and Blackjack, who’s been running well on the all-weather this year, head the opposition.
