14:00 – Mapmaker

MAPMAKER made a promising start to her career when finishing third in a similar contest to this and over this trip at Redcar last week. She would have likely finished at least a length closer, too, but for meeting trouble inside the final furlong, and she seems sure to improve for that initial experience. That form sets the standard and she is preferred to Roubay, who offered something to work on at Chester on debut. Without Flaw makes most appeal of the newcomers and needs monitoring in the betting.

14:35 – Short Circuit

All but one in this field are making their debut so the market will likely reveal plenty, but SHORT CIRCUIT was an expensive yearling and represents a yard whose two-year-olds have been going well, including first time up. He is a half-brother to a two-year-old winner over a similar trip and will more than likely be ready to roll. D Point and Golden Myrrh also cost plenty and also make a fair bit of appeal on paper.

15:10 – Son

SON was a first British runner for his sire Too Darn Hot and he produced a promising first effort when finishing third at Ascot last month, in need of the experience but getting the hang of it as the race wore on, staying on well without being unduly punished. That was over five furlongs, but he is bred to relish this step up in trip, and represents a yard whose juveniles usually take a big step forward from first to second run.

15:45 – Sergeant Tibbs

SERGEANT TIBBS’s sole success to date came over this course and distance around this time lat year, and he has largely acquitted himself well since joining this yard. He was strong in the market on his latest start back here, but can have that run overlooked, having raced on the unfavoured far wing from a poor draw. That was a much stronger contest than this, though, and he remains 5 lb below his last winning mark, so he is worth another chance. Stablemate Vape, who also has a decent record at the track, can pose the biggest threat.

16:20 – Ludmilla

LUDMILLA shaped best of all on her debut at Newmarket last season but she went backwards on her return from six months off when down the field at the same track in April. There was a little more to glean from her latest effort and she is just the type to take a step forward now entering handicaps, especially when remembering the promise of her debut run. She is bred to be better than an opening mark of 76 and she could hardly be in better hands. Discretion shaped with plenty of encouragement on her return at Kempton a fortnight ago and is feared most.

16:55 – Lmay

LMAY was a 650,000 guineas purchase as a yearling and she showed plenty of ability when finding only another promising filly who had the benefit of experience too strong on her debut at Haydock in April. She was fast tracked to listed company on just her second start and, while that test probably came too soon in her development, she wasn’t disgraced, and should have plenty more to offer. This is a much more suitable opportunity and she will be hard to beat stepped up even further in trip. Bumper winner A Tickatickatiming is next best switched to the Flat for the first time.

17:25 – Saligo Bay

SALIGO BAY won a few times over hurdles after joining Gary Moore and he proved better than ever to resume winning ways on the Flat at Windsor last time, benefiting from a strong gallop, but also deserving extra credit to win in the manner he did from his position. The runner-up has franked that form by winning since and, given how well backed Saligo Bay was on that occasion, there may be even more to come from just 3 lb higher. Wonder Starelzaam won at this venue last summer and will find this easier than the all-weather race he contested last time.

17:55 – Intricacy

INTRICACY cost €750,000 as a yearling and he built on the promise of his debut effort when opening his account over an extended mile at Wolverhampton in December. He started favourite for his return at the same course over a mile and a half three weeks ago, but that race wasn’t run at a strong gallop and he was unable to deal with a speedier rival. The addition of a visor should sharpen him up now and he remains with potential on handicap debut. Nader King narrowly made a winning return at Nottingham and he may emerge as the main threat now handicapping for his top yard.
