14:15 – Jasour

JASOUR has a good sprint pedigree – he’s by Havana Grey out of an unraced half-sister to Sprint Cup and Diamond Jubilee winner Twilight Son – and he made a promising start to his career when runner-up at Salisbury last month. Jasour knew what was required early on, but showed his inexperience in the closing stages, hanging left inside the final furlong. He sets a good standard and remains open to improvement, so he can get off the mark.

14:45 – One Night Thunder

ONE NIGHT THUNDER, a 300,000 guineas purchase as a yearling, landed the odds on debut at Kempton in March and then showed better form in defeat when third in a good-quality conditions race at Goodwood last month. That is just about the pick of the form on offer and One Night Thunder could yet improve after only two outings.

15:15 – Mogwai

MOGWAI offered plenty to work with when third behind Clipsham Gold on her stable debut at Kempton last month, keeping on well inside the final furlong without ever threatening the decisive winner. That was Mogwai’s first start for 16 months, though, so she is entitled to be sharper with that outing under her belt and should take a step forward. She can reverse the form with Clipsham Gold on these revised terms.

15:45 – Al Agaila

AL AGAILA progressed well on the all-weather over the winter, winning a mile novice at Kempton and a pair of mile-and-a-quarter handicaps at Lingfield, improving her Timeform rating on each occasion. She had to work harder than for her two previous victories when completing the hat-trick last time, though she was value for a bit more than the margin of a head would suggest in a steadily-run race. Al Agaila still looks well treated after edging up only 2 lb, remains open to further progress and can extend her winning sequence back on turf.

16:15 – War Chant

WAR CHANT stepped up on his reappearance effort when denied by only half a length in second at Redcar on his penultimate start, finding only a thriving sort too strong. War Chant was only fifth off this 2 lb higher mark at Bath last time, but he again ran well and was also beaten little more than half a length in a tight finish. They may have finished in a heap but the form is working out well – the second and third both won next time out – and War Chant ought to give another good account.

16:45 – Reach

REACH shaped well when fourth in a competitive handicap at the Dante meeting last month, coming from further back than the three who beat her. She looked set to play an even bigger role in the finish when making smooth headway early in the straight and still held every chance over a furlong out but she was unable to sustain the effort. The way she went through that race suggests she should have no problem dropping back in trip here and she holds strong claims in this less competitive event.

17:15 – Grandfather Tom

GRANDFATHER TOM wasn’t at his best when only fourth at Southwell last month but he would have a good chance if bouncing back to the sort of form he showed when successful at Lingfield seven days earlier. That was a weak race at Lingfield but Grandfather Tom was still an impressive winner, leading on the bridle on the home turn before quickening four lengths clear. Grandfather Tom is 5 lb higher in the weights than at Lingfield but still appeals as being on a fair mark and he looks worth siding with.
