Preference is for BOBBY KENNEDY, who returned from a break with a close second behind a well-backed rival at Bath last month and remains feasibly treated on his best form. Ciao Adios has held her form fairly well since her last win in January and she’s feared most, although Foursome wasn’t beaten far at Southwell three weeks ago and has claims if this sets up for her closing style. Another to keep an eye on is Blazer Two, who was successful off the same mark over same course and distance (C&D) last summer.
Plenty have possibilities but it might be worth sticking with hat-trick seeker BERNADINE, who came from off the pace to win at Kempton in her final two runs during the winter and is a big player again if she can transfer her progress back to turf. The other last-time-out winners Little Helen and Zara’s Return are feared most in that order, although Sonemos is respected after her good second on Polytrack last month. Creme Chantilly also enters the reckoning, while there are several handicap newcomers who need watching in the market.
It’s hard to rule out any of these in this tight contest but it might be worth siding with CRESTA CAT, who sets the standard on his promising third at Chelmsford 18 days ago and is open to more progress on this step up in trip. The main threat could come from Intergalacticat, who raised his game with a creditable third in a Yarmouth handicap last month and has claims if he can build on that back in a novice event.
Most of these have something to prove but Tim Easterby’s lightly raced 4yo MAHANAKHON(NAP) hit a personal best with his strong-finishing win in a Wetherby novice last month. He’s open to more progress back up in trip on his handicap debut and can strike again to complete a double. Six-time turf winner Sly Madam wasn’t beaten far in a Class 2 event at Ascot last time and she’s feared most ahead of Cabinet Of Clowns.
This looks very open with several 3yos who are capable of taking higher order this summer. Striking Star has been expensive to follow over 7f but remains one to be interested in now dropped to 6f. Fox Master should be capable of better on this more suitable surface than at Ascot recently but GRENHAM BAY can continue his steady progress on a track that is likely to suit. Cruise is just one of other likely types.
Rock N Roll Pinkie justified strong support when holding off a subsequent winner at Wetherby and she’s respected on this drop back in trip. Dreams Adozen and D Day Arvalenreeva both caught the eye with their promising efforts in novice events last time, but the vote goes to another handicap newcomer in MISS CYNTHIA. Sir Mark Prescott’s well-bred filly is a half-sister to a 1m4f winner and could look a different proposition upped to this trip on her return to action.
The in-form 4yo Damascus Finish is respected, while Moon Over The Sea has won three times this year and has claims if he can bounce back again after a disappointing run at Yarmouth last time. Angel Of Peace is a big player if she can build on her handicap debut third at Redcar, but the vote goes to another unexposed 3yo in GALLIMIMUS. This well-bred gelding could show a lot more upped to this trip on his handicap debut and his yard won this with an improver last year.
