13:15 – Haydock – Tiger Beetle

The Mark Rimell yard are in decent form with a tidy winner at Yarmouth mid-week. Tiger Beetle was an expensive buy for another team and can now start to pay his way over what looks an ideal trip of 1m 4f and the quicker ground should be well in his favour.

13:30 – Goodwood – Francesco Clemente

Maintained his 100 per cent unbeaten record in dominant fashion when we last saw him 308 days ago and this looks a perfect starting point for the Gosden inmate. El Drama could give him a little to think about as he’s equal to him on ratings, but he just doesn’t win that often. Francesco Clemente has been brought on patiently last season and that can be rewarded now and later on in the season, when upped in Grade.

13:50 – Haydock – Law Of The Sea

He never really got the chance to show how good he was at Chester last time when an unlucky fourth in the Chester Cup. Admittedly, Law Of The Sea is dropping back down in distance to 2m but the longer galloping nature of this track’s home straight will allow him to get into top gear earlier. He can make amends for last time with William Buick booked.

    14:05 – Goodwood – Urban Sprawl

It looks as if his run last time has been overlooked as he went far too hard up on the front end Chester and was only nailed late on in the short straight to finish fourth. Urban Sprawl has been handed a good inside position in stall three and he might take some reeling in around this venue. Joe Fanning may pop him out in front and try to make all again.

    14:25 – Haydock – Defence Of Fort

He might well of slipped under the radar a touch with a lowly rating of just 88. He looked really good on his debut at Ascot last season and probably just lacked the strength to carry his big frame later on in the campaign. Defence Of Fort has been gelded over the winter and now back on a quicker surface he could be a different proposition.

      14:40 – York – Alligator Alley

David O’Meara’s runner has already had a productive winter campaign and showed that he is no back number on the turf, with an excellent close up sixth at this venue last time. Alligator Alley was sloppy at the start that day and wasn’t given a hard time when his winning chance had gone. He looks dangerously well handicapped off a mark of 98 and is a big player if getting away on the ‘B’ of the bang, when the stalls fly open.

      15:00 – Haydock – Bradsell

The 6f Sandy Lane Stakes can go to Bradsell who made a cracking return to action in the Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot a few weeks ago. He looked all over the winner until getting very tired late on after his lengthy absence. He is bound to strip fitter now and this Group 2 contest looks a fascinating match up with Cold Case and Little Big Bear who also have Royal Ascot aspirations. The winner here will be towards the head of the market for the Commonwealth Cup in the three-year-old sprinting division.

      15:15 – York – Mimikyu/Moon Daisy (each-way)

Even allowing for the penalty she has to carry, Mimikyu is well clear on official ratings and this looks a golden opportunity for her to get straight into the winners enclosure on her seasonal debut. If you don’t like the short-price favs, then Irish raider Moon Daisy has been overlooked in the market. She ran on into an eye-catching fourth in hot company on a quicker surface at Leopardstown last time after blowing the start and racing in last place for most of it. She can improve again at a nice each-way price.

      15:30 – Haydock – Royal Acclaim

The Group 2 Temple Stakes over 5f is ultra-competitive but Royal Acclaim is very lightly raced for a four-year-old. She looked right out of the top drawer when winning at York on her second start last season before her season trailed off. Trainer James Tate has been in no rush to get her back to the track as we know she has a very good record ‘fresh’. She could still be the best in the sprinting division this season because at this moment, we have no stand-out candidate.

      15:40 – Curragh – Paddington

It looks far too easy at the prices for High Royal and Royal Scotsman to bring this Irish 2,000 Guineas prize back to England. Surely the Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O’Brien will have something to say about it with Paddington. He wasn’t fully extended to keep the winning sequence going last time and he’s clearly on the improve. He’s also got the advantage of being a strong course and distance winner already.
