13:50 – Bated Breeze

BATED BREEZE shaped well when finishing sixth on his debut at this course three weeks ago, making good progress late on once the penny dropped. He wasn’t given a hard time by his rider and still appeared full of running as he reached the line seven and a half lengths behind the winner. Sure to improve with that run under his belt, especially now stepping up to six furlongs, Bated Breeze is fancied to put his experience to good use to open his account at the second attempt.

14:25 – Come Together

COME TOGETHER showed improved form to get off the mark on his final two-year-old start at Wolverhampton in November, asserting near the line to land the spoils by half a length. That appeals as solid form – the runner-up won his next start over the same course and distance – and it was hard not to be impressed by the way Come Together picked up in a steadily-run race, recording a notably fast closing sectional. He now makes the switch to handicaps and his potential for more improvement after just three starts suggests an opening BHA mark of 85 won’t prove his limit.

15:00 – Araminta

ARAMINTA confirmed the promise of her debut when finishing third in a listed contest at this course last time, going down fighting against a pair of older and far more experienced rivals. She was beaten just a length at the line and the way she finished her race suggests the step up to a mile and a quarter here is likely to unlock further progress. This looks a weaker contest anyway now back against her own age group and just a repeat of the form she showed last time is likely to put her right in the mix once again.

15:35 – Ropey Guest

ROPEY GUEST arrives here on a losing run stretching back to September 2021, but he proved himself at least as good as ever when hitting the frame in a series of competitive handicaps in 2022, notably filling the runner-up spot in both the Buckingham Palace Stakes and Bunbury Cup. He has now dropped to a BHA mark of 88 – lower than at any stage last season – so this looks a good opportunity for him to gain a deserved success if stripping fitter with his return in the Victoria Cup at Ascot under his belt.

16:10 – Gregory

GREGORY had three previous winners behind him when making a successful debut at Haydock last month, only winning by a length and three-quarters but looking value for extra having been caught further back than ideal in a steadily-run race. That was a hugely promising start to his career and there should be lots more to come from him with the experience under his belt. A half-brother to last year’s winner of his listed heat, Lionel, Gregory is fancied to take the step up in his stride to make it two from two on his way to bigger and better things.

16:45 – Dream Composer

DREAM COMPOSER has looked an improved model in winning his last two starts, first scoring at Newmarket in April and then defying a 2 lb higher mark to follow up over this course and distance three weeks ago. He was well on top at the finish on the last occasion, hitting the front over a furlong out and just needing to be kept up to his work from there to win by a length and a quarter. He clearly arrives here in the form of his life and a further 4 lb rise in the weights might not be enough to prevent him from completing the hat-trick.

17:20 – Melakaz

MELAKAZ returned from seven months off with an easy win at Chelmsford last time, drawing right away in the straight to land the spoils by five lengths. This will be his toughest test following an 8 lb rise in the weights, but he remains relatively unexposed as a stayer and the step up to two miles for the first time today should be right up his street. A thoroughly likeable type, he can take another step forward to gain his fifth victory from his last seven starts.
