13:15 – Haydock – In The Breeze

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a handicap over 1m4f. Low grade stuff and the lack of eight runners is a nightmare. I don’t really fancy any of them but the selection will be IN THE BREEZE for Mick Appleby and Ray Dawson. My selection is down to a mark of 74 having finished second in a decent handicap at Newmarket in August of last year off 80. Last time at Windsor he looked in need of a step up in trip and he wasn’t disgraced after not getting a clear run.

13:30 – Goodwood – King Of Conquest

ITV are also at Goodwood Saturday for this Listed event over 1m2f. If KING OF CONQUEST stays this trip he might be very hard to pass for Godolphin, Charlie Appleby and James Doyle. On ratings my charge has a bit to find, but he’s in good form and landed a big field handicap last time. It’s hard to know how good Francesco Clemente is and he could easily be up to this, while El Drama has always had loads of ability.

13:50 – Haydock – Law Of The Sea

Another handicap this time over 2m. Carzola is up 10lb and I have to take him on. LAW OF THE SEA was denied a clear un when fourth in the Chester Cup and although he’s 1lb higher for that effort he must have a great chance even though the pace won’t be the same here. Lightly raced and unexposed at this trip. Goes for William Buick and Ian Williams.

    14:05 – Goodwood – Dark Thirty

A handicap for 3yo over 7f. A competitive event. DARK THIRTY is up 3lb for a fine success at York but he’s in great shape right now and might be up to the task. James Doyle rides for Richard Hannon and he’s on top of a horse who goes on most ground and stays 7f well. Can try and make all if he wants to or race close to the pace.

    14:25 – Haydock – Royal Cape

Time for a Heritage Handicap over 1m in the Silver Bowl for 3yo. ROYAL CAPE looked an absolute machine at Windsor last time but is on very different ground here so I can’t be confident. His success last time was on soft but he powered clear and the Hughie Morrison stable is in good shape. William Buick is booked which is a plus but I can only pray the ground will be all right.

      14:40 – York – Mondammej

ITV also go to York Saturday for this handicap over 5f. I’m going to following MONDAMMEJ over a cliff for a few weeks and my campaign carries on here. I tipped him up at York last time when he was a fine fourth in a big field and the key was the faster ground. It should be even quicker here and provided this doesn’t come too soon he should run well again for regular partner Cam Hardie and Anthony Brittain.

15:00 – Haydock – Cold Case (each way)

Up in class here for the Group 2 Sandy Lane for 3yo over 6f. 2000 Guineas flop Little Big Bear or Bradsell might hack up here but I have to back COLD CASE each way for Clifford Lee and Karl Burke. Quite simply he’s the improving in-form sprinter in this line up and of course had Bradsell back in third at Ascot last time when landing the Commonwealth Cup trial. Has to be very hard to keep out the frame.

      15:15 – York – Mimikyu

Here’s a Group 3 for fillies over 1m6f. Hard to get away from MIMIKYU who should outclass this field for John & Thady Gosden and Kieran O’Neill. Rated 112, Mimikyu was a classy winner of the 2022 Park Hill at Doncaster and this trip should be no issue. Might prefer a bit softer ground as has never raced on anything this fast. That would be the one worry.

      15:30 – Haydock – Twilight Calls

Another Group 2 in the Temple Stakes over 5f. A wide open event. TWILIGHT CALLS showed nothing on his return in the Palace House at Newmarket but I’d expect much better here for Henry Candy and Connor Beasley. This faster ground will be much more up his street and was the surface he was on when second to Nature Strip in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot last year. Really should run a huge race in this line-up.

      15:40 – Curragh – Hi Royal

Classic action comes from Ireland in the 2000 Guineas over 1m. Many will take Royal Scotsman to turn around Newmarket form with HI ROYAL but I’ll keep the faith with Kevin Ryan’s charge with Oisin Murphy on top. He’s a simply horse to ride who can race up with he pace and he’s very lightly raced so might well have much more to come. This trip he stays strongly which is another plus. Was a huge price at Newmarket but his effort might well not have been a fluke and this ground should be perfect.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
