The Charlie Hills-trained MAGHLAAK (NAP) could be a lightly raced 4yo to follow and, although his previous turf runs have been on soft and heavy going, his illustrious pedigree provides optimism he will be versatile ground-wise. Thunder Max could be best of the rest now back on better ground, with Spirit Of The Bay next on the list.
The standard is set by ALWAYS LOVE YOU, who showed promise at Windsor in a race that has thrown up a couple of winners since. Closely matched Easterby fillies Lady Dandylion and Patasola are on the next rung of the form ladder. Nicely bred newcomer China Trade is second choice overall, while Chic Colombine and Tiora are other interesting types among the debutantes.
Two-time Listed winner Gale Force Maya holds leading form claims now back on better ground but this could go to the 3-year-old SWEET HARMONY, who has shown considerable sprinting potential in 7f Group races. Makarova shaped as though she would improve for her reappearance run and could be set for another good season, while the step back up to 6f is worth exploring with Get Ahead.
Some very interesting newcomers and preference is for MARY BAGOT, who is from a fine family and whose trainer George Scott has made a good start with his 2yos this year. The Karl Burke-trained Fallen Angel is second choice ahead of Lady Of Leisure for Andrew Balding.
The Roger Varian-trained SUB ROSA was a promising fourth on her debut at Newmarket last October and is taken to make a winning reappearance. Zouzanna could be a big danger, however, having shown strong form last autumn when runner-up on her first two starts. Ithra was a good second at Yarmouth last time and is third choice.
This is all about AURORA DAWN, who will be very tough to beat under a 6lb penalty if reproducing the form of her comfortable big-field handicap win at Newmarket last Friday. Pearl Eye was in good form last month and could be best of the rest, although Whatacracker could provide a value straight forecast option on his second run for the in-form Mark Walford.
Soft going may well have been against AL HARGAH in her first two handicaps and today’s better ground could help her rediscover the promise shown at Windsor last October. She earns the vote ahead of handicap newcomer Calleveryoneuknow, who represents the in-form Amy Murphy. Yarmouth winner Dog Fox is open to further improvement, while Wadacre Gomez retains potential.
