18:12 – Silastar

Gary Moore and Ryan Moore won this last year and they hold strong claims with SILASTAR, who bolted up at Leicester last time. Night Arc is unexposed at the trip and is an interesting contender despite the absence, while Motataabeq could leave his reappearance run well behind.

18:42 – Hackman

No winner in the last ten years was drawn higher than four and six emerged from the two lowest boxes. HACKMAN has exited the stalls like a greyhound in both his starts and, from the plum draw, he’s taken to make all and reverse debut placings with Blue Storm. Newmarket winner On Point will be seen to much better effect on this faster ground if taking after his sire Blue Point, though this is a seriously deep renewal in which cases can be made for most of them.

19:12 – Enemy

Tactics are likely to be key and, provided this pans out more favourably than 12 months ago, then ENEMY should take some beating. Last year’s runner-up Nate The Great finished behind the improved selection when they clashed in Saudi Arabia earlier this year, but returning to positive tactics would enhance his prospects considerably in a race that has no obvious front runner. Roberto Escobarr is preferred of the other three.

19:42 – Desert Crown

While this is hopefully a stepping stone to bigger things for last year’s Derby winner DESERT CROWN, it will be hugely disappointing should tonight’s star attraction not live up to his billing. Sir Michael Stoute has taken this race 11 times and his 2010 Epsom hero Workforce won it first time back as a 4yo. Hukum is the other Group 1 winner but he is returning from a significant injury over a trip well shy of his best. Cash is an intriguing second choice, having scaled notable heights in defeat despite looking a work in progress. Claymore appeals as another 4yo with more to offer, while Solid Stone wouldn’t be without hope of remaining on the scene if he was granted an easy lead.

20:12 – Yaanaas (NAP)

The mere fact that such powerful connections have persevered with YAANAAS (NAP) (who didn’t make his debut until March) is a strong indication that this well-bred gelding can progress to greater heights. He raced without any cover for the vast majority of his handicap debut at Ascot so that effort is easily upgraded. Second choice Assessment was strongly fancied for a deep handicap at York last week only to be withdrawn at the start and he too looks booked for bigger things. While it seems unlikely that Light And Dark is about to snap his habit of breaking slowly, there are further races to be won off his mark.

20:42 – Umberto

The eyes are drawn to the well-related handicap debutant Greek Order (second choice) who steps up to a trip that should bring him on. Not that UMBERTO has been shaping with any less promise and it was surely a Group horse who cleared into the distance at Yarmouth last time. Ashmore, Prince Of Zenda and Dancing In Paris are others with appealing claims in a very open finale.
