Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPs table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
Persian Phoenix hasn’t long turned two but she is bred to be useful and looks the pick of the newcomers. Vice Captain and Invincible Amy are others with paper claims but ARC SHADOWFAX can get off the mark at the second attempt. Bred to be sharp, he was clueless in the early stages on his Thirsk debut but did make some headway when the penny dropped. That was a much stronger race than this – the first two had already shown useful form and the third has since bolted up – and he can provide his yard with a first 2yo winner.
What’s The Story comes with some risk, being a 9yo who has a poor strike-rate since 2019, but he holds the strongest chance on last-time-out form. DETECTIVE has a cracking record at this venue and may be able to follow up last year’s success in this race. Strongbowe (second choice) and Alazwar are respected.
Beannaigh Do made an encouraging start to his chasing career over 2m3f here last month and looks quite interesting over today’s longer trip, while Unblinking returned to form with a good recent effort. However, in the absence of anything with a convincing profile, a chance is taken on TUDORS TREASURE, who is on a good mark if he warms to the task today.
The return to a sound surface should prompt a return to form for the unexposed Sacred Jewel but the pair to appeal most are Dubai Dawn and READY FREDDIE GO. It is quite possible that Dubai Dawn has been let into handicaps lightly and there is no denying he has been impressive in his two 6f AW wins, but this will be a much stiffer test for him and in the top-weight he is up against a battle-hardened sprinter who should be spot on after his return to action on unsuitably slow ground.
