13:30 Newbury – Rival (Daily Mail)

A few of these are interesting from a handicapping point of view such as Taravara, Le Reveur, Newton Jack and Greg The Great, but RIVAL may prove the answer having run well to finish third in both starts since returning last month, including in a much stronger contest last time. Were the ground to dry out then Lenny’s Spirit could pose the main danger having run so well on good to firm last summer, including off higher marks than today. Flag of Truth and Sandy Paradise are others to consider in an open race.

13:40 Newmarket – Wiseacre (Daily Record)

Solid propositions are thin on the ground, for various reasons. The maiden WISEACRE, who has low mileage and may be capable of better still in handicaps, is the suggestion in what may prove a winnable race for him. Dynamic Talent, with the change of scenario an intriguing move, is second choice ahead of Society Lion.

15:00 York – Marhaba The Champ (The Racing Post)

The very lightly raced 4yo MARHABA THE CHAMP returns to action having had wind surgery and there can be optimism he remains on a good mark, having been a commanding winner off 6lb lower at Hamilton last September. Aramaic has been off since September 2021 but could also be well treated and William Haggas can ready one after a long absence. He’s second choice ahead of recent Haydock winner Eeetee, with Nobel another to consider.

16:55 Newbury – Salamancan (The Sun)

Cherryhawk finished a clear second on her handicap debut at Goodwood 13 days ago and is respected, but there are several in here who may improve a fair bit now upped in trip and/or tackling their first handicap. Lady Rascal, Roman Art and Lucky Fifteen are amongst the most interesting in that category, but a chance is taken with SALAMANCAN, who hasn’t shown much in his first three starts but, being a half-brother to Morandi and Ottilien amongst others, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see better from him.
