Preference among those who have run is for FLAG OF ST GEORGE whose fourth here at the Craven meeting is already looking pretty good with the horses he divided both impressive winners in the meantime. He can also benefit from today’s step up in trip. White Christmas is next best on form and the most likely danger. Of the newcomers, Survivalist represents a trainer who should have an idea as to where he stands with the selection, and he had another newcomer go in at the first time of asking last week at Ascot.
Star Guest is a very well-bred filly who is appealingly handicapped on the form of her AW success, but MAID INLONDON is also interesting. She really took the eye in how she came from off a slow pace to win going away at Wolverhampton, and she has relatives who were way better than this level. Mayfair Gold and Icy Dip are progressing nicely, while Risotto is also in the mix.
Despite the form of her debut race taking some knocks, SPRING DAWN still looks the one to be with. The winner is probably quite smart and this Kodiac filly did well to push her close from off the pace. Ludmilla was a big disappointment in a different maiden at the Craven meeting but the promise she showed here last October is by no means forgotten. Godolphin introduce two other well-bred fillies who could easily go well.
A tight handicap. Brasil Power may prefer the AW scene and Granary Queen’s hold-up style might not be ideally suited to this track. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see last year’s winner Royal Musketeer threaten once again but the top two appeal most. Priscilla’s Wish continues to surprise off her inflated mark but GLOBAL ESTEEM is off the same figure for his last three wins and there was a lot to like about his Ascot return.
Having bumped into some good horses across his five starts, including at Beverley last month when back from an absence, LISEO is taken to make a winning handicap debut. Appier continues to improve and is second choice ahead of Sonnerie Power.
The trouble in running encountered by CONNEMARA COAST (nap) over 1m here last time will not have gone unnoticed but he probably remains well handicapped and his pedigree looks promising enough for 1m2f. Fox Journey is one of several others moving up in trip and he is feared most, although Cavern Club needs a mention with his wayward but strong-finishing efforts as a 2yo.
Quinault has fairly dotted up the last twice but ERTEBAT could be every bit as progressive having made up a lot of late ground to deny a subsequent winner at Pontefract. Confederation was well behind Hiatus at Windsor but he’s well-in with that rival on their previous encounter and drying conditions are in his favour.
