Runners in the Chester Cup

13:30 Chester – Red Mirage (Robin Goodfellow)

RED MIRAGE’s two runs at Chester have resulted in a narrow win in this race last year (off 2lb lower; good to soft) and good second in July. Sold out of Andrew Balding’s yard for 70,000gns in October. Course form a big plus.

14:05 Chester – Pride Of America (Tipman)

PRIDE OF AMERICA made all in grand style in C&D handicap at this meeting last year, his only appearance at this track. Acts on soft and although his form dipped in French Listed race in March on latest outing, 1m4f probably played a part. Also had wind surgery soon afterwards. Big shout if back on song.

14:25 Ascot – Beny Nahar Road (Sportinglife)

BENY NAHAR ROAD was a close second on first three starts (1m4f on good to soft on second occasion) and similar form next time. Ran poorly over 1m5f at Newbury (soft) on handicap debut last October, however, and left Richard Hughes for 72,000gns three days later. Had gelding and wind operations since. Unexposed and staying trips are plausible on pedigree.

18:45 Kilbeggan – Desert Heather (The Irish Sun)

DESERT HEATHER put up a career best when winning over 2m7f on handicap debut here last month, relishing a step up in trip. 14lb rise looks tough and likely to get softer ground this time.
