13:30 – Chester – Night On Earth

I was tempted by Nymphadora for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy but I’ve landed on Night On Earth. He’s not easy to fancy on his reappearance run at Beverley last time out but he’s a course and distance winner. Ian Williams is a brilliant trainer and he’s in good form at the moment.

13:50 – Southwell – Yorkshire

Yorkshire is the most interesting horse in the race. He’s stepping up in trip and he won at Southwell in March. His form is solid but the question is whether he will stay the trip.

    14:05 – Chester – Self Aclaim

I’m with Self Aclaim but it’s more of a tentative pick. He needed his run on his debut and he’s won his last two runs at Wolverhampton and Newcastle. He’s bred to run well on turf and this is his first run since January. I reckon connections felt he’s a Chester horse and they’ve held him back for this. It’s his sort of trip.

    14:40 – Chester – Alder

Passenger deserves plenty of respect and he’s got the pedigree to do well. He impressed on his debut at Newmarket in April but I like Alder. He’ll take a fair bit of beating. He will appreciate the distance and he won well at Cork last time out. His form from last year stands up well too.

    15:15 – Chester – Hamish

I’ve landed on Hamish for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. He’s not flashy but he keeps getting the job done. There’s a bit of dig in the ground and that will help him. He’s very consistent and he should be hard to beat.

    15:45 – Chester – Oneforthegutter (each way)

You definitely want to have one of the Ian Williams horses on side and he’s got Dream Harder and Oneforthegutter. There could be more value in backing the latter on the back of wind surgery as I have slight doubts about Dream Harder. He’s back on the Flat off a mark of 90, which looks workable.
