Horse Racing tips: Mick Fitzgerald’s Chester fancies on Thursday

Mick Fitz is back with his crystal ball for Thursday's televised racing at Chester.

13:30 – Chester – Lihou

13:30 Chester – Lihou

Dave Evans has booked Hayley Turner to ride Lihou and it’s a good decision. Lihou was a winner at Epsom over 5f on soft ground and he only went up 3lbs for that success. He’s drawn in stall two and he’s a prominent racer who ticks all the right boxes.

    14:05 Chester – Theoryofeverything

Theoryofeverything will strip fitter for his run in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury where he got a little bogged down on his first run of the season. The Greenham is a recognised Guinness trial so stepping into handicap company is an interesting move for John & Thady Gosden after he was allotted his mark of 94. Vetiver has to be respected after she bolted up at Beverley but I’m with Theoryofeverything.

    14:40 Chester – Alder

It is amazing to think that Aidan O’Brien has won seven of the last 10 runnings of this race, so I am tempted by his runner San Antonio after his comfortable success at Dundalk. He’s a son of the mighty Dubawi and is out of a mare who was placed in a Group One. The trainer’s record is impressive, but his son Donnacha has Alder. He did well to win at Cork and his third-place finish at Leopardstown behind Auguste Rodin and the fact he has had a run, makes me stick with him.

    15:15 Chester – Changingoftheguard

Almost every year Aidan O’Brien has a very well backed favourite win at the Royal meeting and last year it was the son of Galileo, Changingoftheguard. He was impressive on soft ground, so he gets the vote as that’s what he’ll encounter again now.

    15:45 Chester – Dream Harder

Ian Williams has booked champion jockey William Buick to ride Dream Harder and that is quite telling. He has been campaigned of late on an artificial surface, but he should be able to cope with the conditions. A good draw in stall three should help.
