Ziggy’s Pheonix was an impressive winner on the soft at Ripon last time out when bagging the rail and never looking in any kind of danger. Gets the plum stall 1 draw at Chester which is massive here and with the Ryan Moore booking there is a lot to like about her chances today. Shown a high cruising speed and she’s open to plenty of improvement, any more rain won’t be an issue and she hit the line hard last time out and I expect another step forward here today.
15:45 Chester – California Gem
1.5 points each way
California Gem shown plenty of promise last year which included a 2 length defeat in a French listed race where the front three have all run well in group company since, so that looks a particular strong bit of form. Went down a narrow 3rd on seasonal reappearance this season and should come on for that effort today. She remains in the same mark today but has scope for plenty of improvement and will appreciate the softer conditions. Got a decent draw in stall 2 and is one who looks very strong for the George Boughey and Kevin Stott combo.
16:20 Chester – Vaguely Royal

Difficult to separate the top 2 in the market here and the market suggests so to but I’m quite keen on Vaguely Royal who looks to be really suited to this test today. Beautifully bred by Galileo and is sure to appreciate this extra trip today when getting a bit outpaced over a mile last time out, softer ground today with the extra trip and then Ryan Moore booked, could be an exciting prospect.
16:55 Chester – Broken Spear
1.5 points each way
Broken Spear ran well here last year when leaving it a little too late and will be ridden with that in mind today. Ran well last time out finishing a close second at Leicester and should strip fitter again for this today. Won this race in 2021 and with the question marks surrounding many of these runners today he looks a very consistent option.
