Both runs here over 1m, finishing midfield on debut and then an improved fourth of 14 (on heavy) a month ago; SHARLOUK didn’t quite get home that day and dropping to 7f looks the right move; sure to win races sooner or later.
This might not be that strong a maiden and AZAZAT – who has Group 1 entries – must have every chance of getting off the mark after showing solid form at the Curragh and here. Milwaukee and Queenstown are entitled to improve on their debut efforts and are feared in that order of preference. Both newcomers need checking in the market.
Joseph O’Brien has a strong hand here since he supplies two of the four runners with a rating in three figures. The vote goes to THORNBROOK, Group 2-placed behind the talented Meditate before running in the Moyglare. She could be tested by stablemate American Sonja and Zarinsk, a 7f course Listed winner and Group 3-placed on her reappearance.
French import Goldana is of significant interest following a winning Irish debut at the Curragh. However, she may not cope with NEW ENERGY, last season’s Irish 2,000 Guineas runner-up now tipped to uphold that form with fourth-placed Wexford Native.
A Group 1-winning son of the 2001 winner Galileo, PROUD AND REGAL (NAP) meets lower-rated rivals on level terms and should be hard to beat. The main danger may be twice-raced maiden Up And Under, a promising second over C&D in the Ballsax Stakes. Aidan O’Brien, who has won the last four editions and 15 in all since 1998, could go close with Londoner whose Longchamp fourth represented a satisfactory seasonal debut.
An interesting maiden but a dangerous betting heat with so many unknown quantities. The betting should be enlightening but as things stand preference is for SHAMIDA who ran such a promising debut race back in the autumn and, unlike most of these, she has Group 1 entries. Ditto Warm Heart and she’s the most likely danger. New Phenomenon could be the pick of the newcomers.
It may be worth taking a chance with LAUGHIFUWANT who has dropped a long way in the ratings since enjoying a productive 2020 campaign. He faces obvious dangers in Timourid and Giladah, closely matched on recent Cork running. Purple Gown and Wild Dollar also hold definite claims.
This looks very open. LASTING PEACE has taken a step forward in each of his maidens and this longer trip heightens interest on his handicap debut. Dubawi Spectre has solid form claims and could improve for a visor, while Rauzan’s excusable heavy defeat last time didn’t do his handicap mark any harm.
