13:30 – Dubai Hills

The market will no doubt prove informative with the majority of these unraced, but DUBAI HILLS is expected to build on his promising debut in France and that should put him in the mix. He showed plenty on that occasion, staying on well in the closing stages to take second place, and the winner that day looked potentially smart, so he won’t be far away if building on that. Ethandun makes appeal on paper and he may emerge as the main threat, with last-time-out winner Vitarli expecte to put her experience to good use.

14:05 – Time Lock

TIME LOCK offered little on her debut, but proved a completely different proposition when scoring by six and a half lengths on her next start at Newmarket, storming clear of some now-useful rivals under a hands-and-heels ride. She found the concession of 6 lb to another promising filly too much at Haydock on her next start, and ran her best race to date when runner-up to another smart type in a listed event at York on her final start. Time Lock sets a high standard on form on her return to action and it will be disappointing if she doesn’t come home in front. Luisa Casati, Thanks Monica and Alaroos are a few who should be involved in the battle for minor honours.

14:35 – Clarendon House

An open handicap where plenty are in with a shout, but slight preference is for CLARENDON HOUSE, who ran a blinder when beaten a neck by a thriving sprinter on his return in this race last season, and he held his own faced with some stiff tasks afterwards. He wasn’t disgraced in a minor event at Beverley on his final start and doesn’t look badly treated back in a handicap (3 lb higher than last year) on his reappearance. Low-mileage, progressive Prop Forward is an obvious threat, ahead of the thriving Reigning Profit.

15:10 – The Lamplighter

THE LAMPLIGHTER is now an eight-year-old, and his losing run stretches back two years, but he goes especially well at this track – he’s a three-time course and distance winner – and he was beaten only a nose on his return in this race last year. He generally goes well when fresh, handles ease in the ground and, now 2 lb lower than when runner-up 12 months ago, he seems sure to launch another bold bid. Capote’s Dream made a positive start to the campaign at Windsor and is second choice, ahead of Ernie’s Valentine.

15:45 – Kolsai

KOLSAI is from a good family and he built on his promising debut when going one place better in a maiden at Newmarket in September. That form has worked out well and he was much improved when finishing runner-up to a highly-regarded colt in a listed event back at Newmarket at the Craven meeting recently. That was over nine furlongs and he was only caught close home, so he will have no problem dropping back to a mile and he remains with potential. The unbeaten Cicero’s Gift, like Kolsai, holds some fancy entries and is another to be positive about in what will likely prove an informative race.

16:20 – Garrick Painter

Provided he handles conditions on this turf debut, GARRICK PAINTER may well be the answer. He was strong in the betting and did the job well at Kempton when last seen in February, displaying a good turn of foot to quicken into the lead. That wasn’t the strongest race but he should have more to offer now handicapping from what appears to be a pretty reasonable opening mark. Man of Eden looks dangerous back at this trip and is feared most, albeit only marginally as cases can also be readily made for the likes of Lunarscape, Island Star and Raintown.

16:55 – Crescent Lake

Gary Moore continues in terrific form and CRESCENT LAKE, who finished with running left trying to follow up his Chelmsford win at Lingfield 17 days ago, arrives in top form. There’s no reason why he won’t continue the good work back on turf so he’s marginally preferred in favour of Justus, who seems sure to go well under a penalty on the back of a commanding success at Doncaster last week. Grandmaster Flash completes the shortlist.
