Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s best bets for Redcar on Thursday

13:50 – Destined

Destined boasts a good sprinting pedigree being by Havana Grey and out of a half-sister to the very smart Stepper Point, and she shaped with promise when runner-up on her debut at Ripon last September. She failed to build on that when only third at Newcastle a couple of months later, running to a similar level as on debut, but it’s still early days and she should have more to offer this year.

14:05 – Indiana Be

Indiana Be ran up to his best when runner-up on his return at Southwell last month, proving no match for the winner but pulling well clear of the remainder. That effort was over a mile but Indiana Be will have no problem dropping back in trip (he was only narrowly denied over seven furlongs at Redcar last season) and the pick of his form is the best on offer here.

14:20 – Little Jo

Little Jo has made no impact on his last couple of starts but he can have his latest effort at Pontefract overlooked as he raced alone up the stand rail in the straight and was never on terms. He has been given a chance by the handicapper, though, and looks the one to side with in a race lacking depth. Little Jo has also run well at this venue before and was runner-up off a 6 lb higher mark here last season.

14:55 – Coverdale

Coverdale left the impression that he probably should have got off the mark when runner-up at Pontefract on his final outing last season as he was only denied by a neck after conceding first run to the winner entering the straight. The way Coverdale stayed on in the straight at Pontefract suggests he should benefit from this step up to a mile and a quarter, while a gelding operation over the winter offers another possible source of improvement. He makes his return with trainer Ed Bethell in excellent order.

15:25 – Concorde

Concorde made a mockery of his opening mark when scoring under Ben Curtis on his return over course and distance last month, and he should have followed up in comfortable style at Chelmsford a few days later only to be caught on the line after being prematurely eased by Pat Cosgrave (a move which resulted in Cosgrave being handed a 28-day ban). Concorde gain some quick compensation under Curtis at Pontefract last week, storming ten lengths clear in the style of a horse a long way ahead of the handicapper, and a penalty should not stop him from going in again.

16:35 – Dapper Man

Dapper Man had fallen a long way in the weights and he cashed in at Southwell on his penultimate start, making all to score by two and a quarter lengths. He ran to a similar level when only narrowly denied at Catterick last time, confirming his return to form, and he should launch another bold bid from what remains a fair mark.

17:05 – Smile And Pay

Smile And Pay scored with plenty in hand when getting off the mark at Catterick last week and looks the one to beat under a penalty. That race rather fell apart with his main two rivals underperforming, but Smile And Pay still appeared to show improved form and has been found a good opportunity here to follow up.
