13:30 – Hauraki Gulf

The new jumps season starts with quite a tightly knit maiden hurdle. Course bumper winner HAURAKI GULF has the best hurdling form and scores very good marks for consistency, so he gets the vote. Global Famenglory, the only one proven to be fully effective on the forecast good ground, is second choice but Exmoor Forest switches back to novice company after a very creditable handicap run, while Good Work has a part to play if his chasing form transfers.

14:02 – Queens Gamble

She was unable to land a significant blow at the Cheltenham Festival but QUEENS GAMBLE looked highly promising in her other three bumpers and ought to win this modest maiden hurdle easily. Energy Two, Night On The Town and Emily’s Star (preferred in that order) can contest the minor honours.

14:37 – Herbiers

No great surprise to see a trio of chasing newcomers turn out on this first day of the 2023-24 jumps season, with A Different Kind perhaps having the most to recommend him. This nevertheless looks a very good opening indeed for recent Silver Trophy fourth HERBIERS, assuming he’s sufficiently over those exertions of 12 days ago to be able to exploit a 1lb lower mark down in class.

15:12 – Shes So Lovely

My Girl Lollipop was knocking on the door at the end of last season but Dan Skelton’s low-mileage mare SHE’S SO LOVELY probably didn’t have the race run to suit when a close fifth at Chepstow last month and gets the nod here in the hope she responds well to the addition of cheekpieces. Hilltown displayed a good attitude to open his account at Plumpton three weeks ago but DEAR RALPHY would probably have won that race had he not come to grief just after the penultimate flight, and he is taken to gain compensation here. Jack The Farmer (second choice) kept on strongly for third over 2m3f on his recent stable debut and looks interesting over today’s longer trip, while Kingsfort Hill is a big player if judged on his penultimate run.

16:22 – Somekindofstar

Fairway Freddy and Another Crick (preferred in that order) both ran well when last in action but this could be the right day to catch SOMEKINDOFSTAR (nap), who won over C&D off today’s mark when fresh in the autumn and returns here after another break.

16:57 – Parc Damour

Elios D’Or is unpenalised for last week’s Kempton win and he is of obvious interest from a handicapping perspective. The Kempton race did rather fall apart though and at the likely odds there could be some mileage in taking him on. Fancy Stuff and Bannister (second choice) have something to recommend them but handicap debutant PARC D’AMOUR still has some potential and is tentatively preferred.

17:32 – Passing Reflection

Regal Renaissance took her form to a new level when winning in good style at Ludlow on Wednesday and is respected under her penalty but a couple of unexposed ones appeal more. Walk Of No Shame ought to find this race easier than the valuable series final she contested on her handicap debut but the suggestion is keen-goer PASSING REFLECTION, who probably wasn’t seen to best effect when making the running in a small field last time and may now deliver on her earlier promise.
