13:55 – Rainbow Sky

RAINBOW SKY looked a very bright prospect when making a successful debut at Kempton in November, picking up well once the penny dropped to win by three quarters of a length. She was then a bit disappointing when returning from five months off over the same course and distance last time, but it’s probably worth putting a line through that run as she blew the start and probably used up too much energy trying to get back into it. She remains capable of better and this looks a straightforward opportunity for her to resume winning ways.

14:30 – Golden Maverick

GOLDEN MAVERICK produced a career best when finishing a close-up third on his handicap debut at Southwell a couple of weeks ago, passing the post just half a length behind the winner and looking unlucky not to go even closer having been caught further back than ideal. He can line up from the same mark today and it’s not out of the question that he may yet have more to offer given how unexposed he is at the trip. With champion jockey William Buick also taking over in the saddle, Golden Maverick rates a confident selection to open his account.

15:05 – Westernesse

WESTERNESSE failed to win in eight starts for Dermot Weld, but he still showed a fairly useful level of form, producing one of his better efforts when last seen finishing third in a big-field maiden at Listowel in September. He has since joined David O’Meara having been bought for 52,000 guineas and this novice event could be his chance to finally get off the mark. After all, he clearly sets the standard on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and O’Meara is renowned for getting more improvement out of his recruits from other yards.

15:35 – Clear Angel

CLEAR ANGEL stepped up on his reappearance with a good sixth at Doncaster last time, sticking to his task well to be beaten less than three lengths. The third gave that form a boost when winning at Redcar next time and Clear Angel has been dropped 2 lb in the weights since that run. He is proven in the mud and clearly likes it here having gained his only victory of last season over this course and distance, so another big run could be on the cards in a wide-open heat.

16:05 – Twelfth Knight

TWELFTH KNIGHT was well backed and duly showed improved form to make a winning return to action at Redcar earlier this month, ultimately landing the spoils by a length having stayed on well to lead inside the final furlong. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 4 lb rise in the weights and that Redcar run was also his first for Ruth Carr having won twice last year when trained by Archie Watson. His new yard continues in top form with a 16% strike rate in 2023 and he remains very much one to keep on the right side in his follow-up bid.

16:35 – High Opinion

HIGH OPINION shaped as if needing the run after five months on the sidelines when finishing sixth at Doncaster last time, making brief headway with two furlongs to run before his effort flattened out. He is likely to prove a different proposition today and a BHA mark of 64 remains workable judged on the balance of his form. It was only in October that he won at Nottingham from 3 lb lower and he has so few miles on the clock that there could yet be more to come from him.

17:05 – Cinnodin

CINNODIN has made good progress to win his last two starts on the all-weather, first getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in February and then defying a 3 lb rise in the weights to follow up at Southwell a couple of weeks ago. He couldn’t have done it any easier on the last occasion, hitting the front over a furlong out and quickly forging clear from there to win by eight lengths. He is clearly going the right way and a further 6 lb rise might not be enough to prevent him from completing the hat-trick now racing on turf for the first time.
