Having done well on AW since joining the Barron yard, JER BATT (nap) is taken to continue his good form and score on this return to turf. The well-bred Redcar novice winner Belsito is feared most on his handicap debut, while Winter Crown is 1-1 for Julie Camacho and is next on the list. Wreck It Ryley can give another good account.
Newmarket challenger MYCONIAN carries a penalty against some interesting rivals but the form of his French win has been boosted and he’s a useful prospect. Karl Burke won this last year and perhaps his newcomer Lochaber will be the chief danger, although fellow debutant Love Billy Boy is also respected, and Blue Prince is open to improvement on this second start.
William Haggas has an excellent record at Musselburgh and MYSTIC PEARL is taken to come out on top having gone close in her first two handicaps. Chealamy is another lightly raced 3yo Newmarket challenger and she is feared most, ahead of last month’s Newcastle maiden winner Elim. Floral Splendour may prove best of the older brigade, while course specialist Gometra Ginty can also run well.
The unexposed topweight Notimeforanother is 2-4 on the Flat and holds strong claims for Keith Dalgleish, but this could go to the Charlie Johnston-trained KNIGHTSWOOD. He didn’t progress as perhaps could have been expected in his 3yo campaign but he returns having been gelded, which could unlock some improvement. C&D winner Arrange is a possible if at the top of her game on this reappearance, along with recent AW runner-up Angels Landing.
Having shown improved form at Wolverhampton three weeks ago on his first run since being gelded, OUT OFSHADOWS is taken to follow up. Charlie Johnston’s pair Urban Sprawl and Venetian are open to further improvement this season, with Venetian feared most having been gelded. C&D Royal Mile runner-up Gincident can also go well, while Prairie Falcon is well worth this first crack at 1m.
Gioia Cieca and MAYWAKE looked resurgent on their reappearances three weeks ago. The low draw may offer Maywake the best chance today, ahead of Mister Bluebird who would probably have got the vote had he not been drawn out wide. Yaaser looks the most interesting candidate among the rest.
First and an eyecatching fourth when they clashed in a 16-runner race here three weeks ago, Monsieur Kodi and Rock Melody could go very well again. The Thin Blue Line, who won this race last year, also returns. However, preference is for DUN NA SEAD who showed up so well in two of her last three starts in Ireland, with promising reappearing 4yo Sacred Jewel feared the most.
