Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPs table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
Several of these have potential and are considered but a good starting point is CELTIC ART, who had a good handful of subsequent winners (including Killaloan) behind when winning an 18-runner Wincanton novice in February and is seemingly on a good mark for today’s handicap debut. Freddie Gingell’s useful 7lb claimer perhaps makes Holetown Hero the pick of Paul Nicholls’ three runners at the top of the racecard, while recent Cheltenham winner Under Control is next on the list. Arqoob may not have been ideally suited by the soft ground when second on last month’s handicap hurdle debut and will have a shout if drying conditions prevail today.
Runner-up in this race last season, THE DABBLER appeared to lose confidence with an early mistake at Fairyhouse. He may now cope with the in-form veteran Sir Bob who finished second in that Fairyhouse event. My Design has taken well to fences, and Velvet Elvis has a sound chance over a trip that should bring out the best in him.
Divine Comedy (second choice) could have a big say on her first start for this in-form stable, while Lunar Jet completing a quick double is another of the more likely outcomes. However, the return to turf and cheekpieces may well see DUNDORY take advantage of his reduced mark. Das Kapital should not be far away.
It’s worth sticking with the progressive TIMEWAVE, who made it 2-3 in handicaps with his eased-down win at Southwell three weeks ago. Dancing Gypsy finished a close second behind the selection at Kempton in January and he’s feared most off the same mark on his return. Nobody Told Me looks a possible improver on his step up to this trip, while there are also several handicap newcomers who need a close look in the market.
