13:05 – Sandown – Celtic Art
ITV Racing Saturday gets under way here as the jumps season closes with a handicap hurdle over 2m. A truly competitive event on paper. CELTIC ART might be well handicapped off 120 for Jeremy Scott and Rex Dingle. When last seen he thrashed Killaloan and he’s actually 11lb better off here! My hope seems to stay well and was improving fast on that last February effort. The ground should be fine.
13:40 – Sandown – Jonbon
Always a rather spurious Grade 1 in the Celebration Chase over nearly 2m. JONBON has a mountain to find on ratings but the high class novice might well be good enough and hopefully will get an aggressive ride from Aidan Coleman to get the best out of his jumping. Nicky Henderson trains the recent Aintree winner who remains an exciting prospect.
14:15 – Sandown – Frodon
The big betting race of the day in a handicap chase over an extended 3m4f. Most of these are going to struggle to go with FRODON if he’s in a going mood for Paul Nicholls and Bryony Frost. The recent Kempton third remains in good shape at the age of 11 and the former King George hero will no doubt get many of these off the bridle. Worth a few quid each-way.
14:50 – Sandown – Hewick
The Grade 2 Oaksey Chase over an extended 2m6f. HEWICK was running a belter when coming down in the Gold Cup and would have finished in a much better position than many would have expected. Rachael Blackmore rides for the Shark Hanlon and I’d imagine they will be hard to catch. The fairytale continues…
15:05 – Leicester Al Mubhir
ITV also show this Flat race from Leicester in the King Richard III Cup handicap over 1m. AL MUBHIR didn’t quite come up to scratch in the Lincoln for William Haggas but still ran a fair race in fifth. That was a first run after a wind operation and he might be better here on the second start after surgery. William Buick rides a horse for which the ground is no issue.

15:25 – Sandown – Mumbo Jumbo
A novices’ handicap chase over 2m4f. It’s not been a great season for Emma Lavelle but off bottom weight here the consistent MUMBO JUMBO might allow her to end on a high. My hope is not massively well handicapped for consistent efforts, but his last run was fair and he stays this trip well and goes on the ground.
15:45 – Haydock – Montassib
ITV also brings you one from Haydock in a handicap over 7f. MONTASSIB was awful in the Lincoln when I thought he would have a fabulous chance. After a slow start he never got in the race. Hopefully Cieren Fallon will get a better tune here and this trip is perfect on ideal ground. Must have at least an each-way chance.
