13:50 – Dan Dee Prince

DAN DEE PRINCE’s sales price more than doubled from foal to yearling and he has a sharp enough pedigree, so he may be worth chancing to make a winning debut for a yard who have started the season in positive fashion. The obvious danger is Indication Call, who is the only one in the field with experience, and he took a big step forward from his debut when runner-up at Beverley five days ago. George Scott’s Billy Webster is another debutant who needs considering in a race where the market will reveal plenty.

14:25 – Concorde

CONCORDE proved a totally different proposition on his return from six months off and a gelding operation when making a mockery of his opening mark at Redcar last week, easily moving to the front and moving clear in the closing stages. He was incredibly unlucky not to follow up at Chelmsford on Thursday, around a length clear and coasting to victory when heavily eased late on and nabbed on the line. Concorde’s jockey received a 28-day ban and he is impossible to oppose again turned out quickly under the same penalty. Camacho Star and Edmund Ironside fought out a good finish at Redcar and can chase the selection home.

15:00 – Cumulonimbus

A competitive handicap where CUMULONIMBUS is a tentative selection. He was steadily progressive in turf handicaps last season, opening his account at Yarmouth in September and followed up under a penalty at Haydock with the minimum of fuss. He again ran well in defeat when not beaten far at Nottingham on his final start, making his move soon enough and picked off by a couple that came from a lot further back. There may be even more to come from him this season and he commands respect. Zealot will be an obvious danger if he is able to transfer this winter’s all-weather improvement to turf.

15:35 – Do I Dream

A big-field handicap where DO I DREAM just about makes the most appeal. She proved better than ever when making a winning return over course and distance 13 days ago, going with plenty of zest and staying on well in the closing stages to beat her stablemate. She didn’t get the rub of the green several times last season and she remains with plenty of upside from a 3 lb higher mark. My Mate Ted has fallen 3 lb below his last winning mark and may prove the biggest danger having shaped like he was in need of the run at Kempton earlier this month.

    16:10 – Didtheyleaveuoutto

This doesn’t look an overly strong race over this marathon trip and it may be worth taking a chance on DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTO who represents a bang in-form yard. He is now a 10-year-old and hasn’t won for nearly two years, but he is well treated on the pick of his form, and hasn’t been with this yard long. He wasn’t disgraced on his latest start over two miles at Southwell and he is well worth a try at this sort of trip on the Flat given he stays three miles over hurdles. The John Berry-trained pair, Tarbat Ness and Dereham, who won this race last year, may provide the main opposition.

    16:45 – Dear Daphne

DEAR DAPHNE improved with each run last season and was arguably unlucky not to make a winning return on handicap debut at Southwell earlier this month. She wasn’t as well positioned as the winner in the race, making good headway from the rear in the straight and only just failing to get up on the line. That was her best effort to date and that form sets a good standard now she is back in novice company. Tellus probably has a race in her, while Quandary is an appealing newcomer for a red-hot stable.

    17:15 – Squeezebox

SQUEEZEBOX showed fairly useful form on his final start in Ireland when hitting the frame in a race which has worked out well and he is interesting making his handicap debut for Mick Appleby and could be the way to go from stall 2. Gannon Glory won on his last visit to Pontefract this time last year and can go well back down in grade. Refuge is another to consider.
