13:50 – Supreme King

A competitive three-year-old handicap where slight preference is for SUPREME KING, who remains a maiden, but had some fairly useful form last season, and recorded a big career-best effort when narrowly denied on reappearance at Nottingham a couple of weeks ago. He battled on well in the closing stages but just failed to deny the well-backed winner and he remains of interest from a 4 lb higher mark. The majority have potential for better and serious challenges are expected from Dionysian and Connemara Coast.

14:25 – Probe

Having been given plenty of time after being picked up out of Dermot Weld’s yard, PROBE was well suited by a switch to sprinting when scoring impressively at Wolverhampton last month. He went in a first-time hood and the manner in which he dispatched of a next-time-out winner suggests he has even more to offer, so he’s fancied to make light of a 6 lb rise in the weights. Orazio shaped as if retaining all ability on his belated handicap debut in January so he may emerge as the main danger, though Aleezdancer and Admiral D also merit respect.

15:00 – Blanchland

This looks a good renewal of the Fielden Stakes and the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained BLANCHLAND is the one to beat on form. He built on previous promise when opening his account in a good race at Newcastle in September before taking a big step forward when runner-up to a smart type in the Zetland Stakes over a mile and a quarter at this course on his final start. Blanchland relished the extra emphasis on stamina on that occasion but should have no problem starting out at this trip on his return to action and appeals as the type that will go on progressing this year. Bold Act and Regal Honour, both representing Charlie Appleby, look the obvious dangers.

15:35 – Coppice

COPPICE is a sister to the same connections’ smart Calyx and she made an excellent impression when making a winning debut over this trip at Kempton in October. She was very well backed on that occasion and she won in the style of a smart prospect, still travelling well when sent into the lead and just pushed out to beat another promising filly. Coppice is open to any amount of improvement now and this looks an ideal starting point. Fairy Cross sets the standard on her Prestige win, while Karsavina and Girl Racer are others that slip into the ‘could be anything’ category.

16:10 – Persian Dreamer

PERSIAN DREAMER makes plenty of appeal on paper for a yard who saddled the runner-up in the Brocklesby and have had 2 winning newcomers for these connections since and she could be the way to go in a race where the market is bound to reveal plenty more. Karl Burke’s Dorothy Lawrence is another interesting newcomer for a yard that had a nice juvenile winning debutant at Windsor on Monday, along with Specific Times.

16:45 – Ludmilla

LUDMILLA is from a good Juddmonte family and she shaped with abundant promise on debut when third over seven furlongs at this course in October. That form hasn’t really been tested as yet, but it looked a good race beforehand and Ludmilla left the impression she would come on greatly for the experience, racing off the pace but really getting the hang of things in the closing stages. The step up to a mile is sure to suit and she looks a good prospect. The newcomers may pose the stiffest opposition, with Silver Lady and Sea Claret of particular interest.

17:20 – Imperial Ace

This is always a strong handicap for three-year-olds and this years renewal can go to IMPERIAL ACE, who is yet to race on turf, but has been particularly impressive on the all-weather in recent months. He built on his debut promise when opening his account at Newcastle in January and progressed again when defying a penalty at Southwell last time. Imperial Ace had Regal Empire behind him on that occasion, who has franked the form since, and he is expected to prove too good once again on these slightly worse terms with the step up to a mile and a quarter sure to suit.
