13:30 – Gemirande

Heltenham is not opposed lightly as he bids for his fourth win in a row but slight preference is for GEMIRANDE, who ran a big race in defeat behind a revitalised opponent at Newbury last month and is also on an upward curve. Having farmed some novice hurdles (including a valuable series final) in the early part of this season, Presentandcounting reverts to chasing on a good mark and will be dangerous if fully tuned up after his break. Captain Tom Cat returned to form on soft ground nine days ago and ought to be better suited by today’s quicker conditions.

14:05 – Lady Adare

Boombawn and Master Chewy (preferred in that order) are both open to significant improvement over today’s trip but there is still more to come from LADY ADARE, who was a very promising novice last season and bumped into a resurgent opponent when second off today’s mark at Wincanton a fortnight ago.

14:40 – Potters Legend

Cases can be made for several of these but it’s not easy to predict which ones will warm to the task today. POTTERS LEGEND is a teenager now but has posted a couple of good efforts in defeat for his new stable this season and his good record around Cheltenham earns him the vote. Valleres gained his recent win on heavy ground but should also be suited by today’s faster conditions and is second choice. His stablemate Didero Vallis lurks on a dangerous mark and is next on the list.

15:15 – Theatre Man

A deep and fascinating novice hurdle that would be worth of Graded status. The Carpenter created a very good visual impression at Newbury last month and The Friday Man (second choice) is a contender if judged on his early-season form, but THEATRE MAN seemed to display improvement when making all for a comfortable success at Kempton and could be hard to catch. Chasing Fire is next on the list but a good handful of the others also make significant appeal.

15:50 – Captain Cattistock

Plenty of these have shown a liking for this track and they include CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK (nap) who can repeat his success of 12 months ago. He rates a more reliable proposition than last year’s runner-up Mister Malarky, who would be dangerous again if he fancies it. Anightinlambourn and Jimmy The Digger are others high up the pecking order.

16:25 – Royaume Uni

His stamina needs taking on trust but ROYAUME UNI was a stayer on the Flat and he’s always been running on over shorter trips. With the return to drying ground a big plus and his stable going well, he might be the answer to a very open handicap. Broadway Boy is going the right way as a stayer and, if in the same form as at Newbury, On The Blind Side won’t be far away.

17:00 – Walhaan

Another very open handicap. WALHAAN will be better suited by this ground than the mud he encountered at Naas and there’s substance to his maiden success at Leopardstown, with the runner-up placed in a deep handicap at Fairyhouse’s National meeting. Compatriot By Your Side, who is only a 4yo, also goes on the shortlist, followed by Mayhem Mya and Black Poppy.
