Cheltenham 1:30pm – Super Six (each-way)

ITV Wednesday gets under way with a limited handicap over an extended 2m4f – and it’s very tricky! SUPER SIX has a big turn around in the weights with Heltenham from Newbury last time when I suspect then former wasn’t quite at his best in any case. Prior to that he’d looked in fine shape with a success at Haydock. He’s an each-way chance in an open contest.

Newmarket 1:50pm – Elwasme (each-way)

The main action on ITV Wednesday is on the Flat at Newmarket. We kick off with a handicap for three-year-old’s over 1m. What a tough heat and of course only 15 runners! I will be very surprised that if in time ELWASME is not better than a 77 rated horse. He goes here for William Buick and Andrew Balding after three runs where he has shown glimmers of ability. That means he could come here well handicapped and I suspect he will appreciate being back on turf. I’ll have a few quid each way.

Newmarket 2:25pm – Above (each-way)

Here’s a handicap over 6f. I want to risk ABOVE for Stuart Williams and Marco Ghiani. This horse saves his best for Newmarket and if producing what he can he’s well handicapped off 87. He has a second in a heritage handicap at this track to Blackrod off 93 and other fine place efforts. Basically he’s never run badly at Newmarket and he has had a prep run. He looks an interesting each-way bet to me.

Newmarket 3:00pm – Blanchland

Up in class for the Listed Feilden Stakes over 1m1f. Charlie Appleby has a good line on BLANCHLAND but I’ll stick with the Jane Chapple-Hyam runner under Marco Ghiani once again. The son of Farhh has a high rating of 108 and chased home the Appleby runner Flying Honours in the Zetland Stakes where recent impressive winner Dear my Friend was back in third. That looks solid form and stamina is clearly no issue.

Newmarket 3:35pm – Fairy Cross

The big one of the day in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn – a 1000 Guineas trial – for fillies over 7f and it’s an unusually big field. Coppice could be any thing as could Girl Racer and Inner Space. That said, I’m sticking with the experience of FAIRY CROSS who surely has to be in the first three and might be good enough in any case. The Prestige winner has plenty of talent and should be primed after a spin in Meydan for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
