13:50 – Fame And Fun

FAME AND FUN has been in good order for Paul Nicholls since winning a conditional jockeys’ handicap at Taunton just after Christmas and he could get back to winning ways in this contest for military amateur riders. He’s been placed in his last three starts and bumped into a useful type in Matata at Newbury last time, that winner running well in Grade 1 company at Aintree this week. Great Ocean is one to note dropping back in trip after a more encouraging effort and Stanley Pincombe should go well again.

14:25 – Buckhorn Rocco

BUCKHORN ROCCO has been beaten at short odds in novices at Exeter on his last couple of starts but he’s unexposed and well treated on some fairly useful bumper form, so he’s worth a chance to make a winning handicap debut with cheekpieces going on for the first time. The Bomber Liston, runner-up at Kempton last time, and Hermes du Gouet, another making his handicap debut, are both feasible dangers in what looks the most competitive contest on the card.

15:00 – Cumhacht

Rebecca Curtis hasn’t had a winner since October but CUMHACHT could be the one to end that losing run in what doesn’t look like a strong maiden hurdle. He hadn’t shown a great deal in bumpers for his current yard but there was more encouragement from his hurdling debut in a novice at Lingfield last time when fourth to Jacks Profit in a race that’s working out well. Double Click and Prince Nino are possible threats.

15:35 – Odins Quest

The second division of the maiden hurdle doesn’t look any stronger so bumper winner ODINS QUEST, who represents the red-hot Gary Moore yard, is worth another chance to confirm the promise of his hurdles debut when fourth at Sandown. Definitely took a step back in the right direction on the Flat six weeks ago and can go close if taking to hurdling at the first attempt, so is feared most ahead of Jack Sprat, who stepped up on his hurdles bow when third at Huntingdon in a race in which the selection seemed amiss.

16:10 – Wick Green

WICK GREEN has bounced back to his best since joining Ben Pauling and looks the solid option with most arriving with something to prove. He won on his first start for the thriving yard at Ffos Las in February under today’s jockey Luca Morgan and ran creditably when amateur-ridden to finish second at Taunton last time.  O’Faolains Lad got no further than the third on his belated comeback at Taunton on Thursday so is worth another chance to show what he can do, while Duc de Beauchene should be on the premises again.

16:45 – Dime Store Cowgirl

Dan Skelton’s mare DIME STORE COWGIRL ran poorly at Kelso last time in a better-class race than she’s been contesting over hurdles, but she won at Catterick in January and this former pointer, who is likely to make at least as good a chaser, is taken to bounce back returned to calmer waters and going over fences for the first time. Top weight Obey The Rules won at Leicester last time and may provide the chief threat ahead of recent Taunton scorer Flash Gorcombe.

17:20 – Meatloaf

Paul Nicholls can take the first division of the bumper with the well-regarded MEATLOAF even though he didn’t meet expectations when favourite for a listed event at Newbury last time. However, he’s good enough to defy a penalty which he picks up for winning here on his debut in December when justifying short odds. He’s preferred to Coastal Rock and The Two Harrys, who both make appeal on paper on their debuts for Harry Fry and Harry Derham respectively.

17:50 – Kintail

Just the five runners in the other division of the bumper which looks most likely to go to one of the newcomers. Nicky Henderson’s KINTAIL appeals most, being a half-brother to a bumper winner and from the family of useful jumpers Blenkinsop and Fortescue. Soir de Gala, who makes his debut in a tongue tie for Paul Nicholls and J. P. McManus, and Horaces Pearl, for Fergal O’Brien who’s had a couple of winners at Aintree this week, are a French-bred pair also representing top yards.
