Tipman Tips use a points system to track profit and loss. To calculate your point value, simply divide your monthly budget into 100 points, it can be done with any budget and any value, for example:

* £50 Monthly Budget – 50p Point Value
* £100 Monthly Budget – £1 Point Value
* £200 Monthly Budget – £2 Point Value

So, in practice:

12:50 – Royal Ascot
Red Rum 5/1 – 1.5 points each-way (3pts total)

If you had a budget of £200 you would place £3 each-way on the example selection above (£6 total)

The biggest and most prestigious handicap race of the year is here and although it’s always a tricky race that requires a lot of luck there is always some decent value to be had if you can find it.

Only one favourite in the last 10 renewals has won so that could be a lovely little insight for us to look at, although I do believe we have a lot more proper Grade 1 horses running in the more recent renewals which should enhance that stat.

Many will have seen from the racing on Friday that it was pretty muddy about, with the course being watered in the morning before the forecasted downpour eventually came and made the course extremely soft. Official going is soft now and with no rain forecast between now and race time it should dry out a bit and make for perfect conditions.

As always with the Grand National we will have a few selections due to the nature of the race and the prices on offer.

Delta Work

1.5 points each-way

Obviously DELTA WORK isn’t the most glamorous price-wise and he’s one most people will have on their shortlist but it’s just very hard to see him not finishing the race and sometimes that’s all you need to run into some profit.

Finished third last year so we know he has that experience over these fences and with the rain and condition of the course it looks as though it’s just come right for him. Winner of the cross country at Cheltenham as he was last year and shown that he can still run well here after a quick turnaround. Gordon Elliot’s yard hasn’t been in the best form lately but he normally does well in these types of races as you all know, Delta Work, as solid as they come for me here.

The Big Dog

1.5 points each-way

THE BIG DOG screams a horse to me who’s improving with every run this year and might peak at the perfect time here. He was right in the mix at Leopardstown before falling and although his jumping definitely needs to be spot on here he is definitely capable and one who should stay the trip. Connections have said everything has gone perfect in his preparation and he has travelled over brilliantly. A few murmurs about his handicap rating but he would have finished second to Galopin Des Champs last time out if he stayed upright and the same question marks wouldn’t be there.

Capodanno

1.5 points each-way

CAPODANNO was aiming for the Gold Cup according to trainer Willie Mullins but didn’t have the right preparation for that level of race so he’s been kept for this one and that may very well pay off.

He’s clearly a class act on the field and I’m hoping that his class will show through here. Still only a 7 year old, so one who’s open to plenty of improvement here and has won two big field races at the Punchestown Festival in previous years. Looks a very classy type here if he’s tough enough.

Corach Rambler

1.5 points each-way

CORACH RAMBLER, what to say about him and we couldn’t leave him out although I would be a lot less inclined at the current price but we did post to some members at 25s prior to his second Cheltenham win and he’s just too well handicapped to ignore. This type of race won’t be as straightforward for him though as his Ultima wins.

A horse who’s switched off and comes with a late run is going to need a bit of luck in running but at these weights and if he’s anywhere in shouting distance turning towards the end you know he’s got a great chance. Conditions look absolutely fine and Lucinda Russel has said she was delighted with the way he schooled leading up to this and he just cannot be ignored.
