AHOY SENOR made the running until falling six out in the Cheltenham Gold Cup; his jumping remains haphazard at times but he’s high class on his day and is now bidding for an Aintree festival hat-trick, having won Grade 1 novice events (hurdles/fences; on good to soft) at this meeting for the last two years; respected back here.
15:10 – Taunton – Picks Lad – sportingfield.com
PICKS LAD won an Ayr bumper for Micky Hammond last spring; has fair form in 2m novice hurdles for this yard since; there’s plenty of stamina in his pedigree and he appeals as one who could go on to better things now handicapping over a much longer trip; interesting runner.
16:40 – Aintree – Third Time Lucki – Sunday Express
Best on good/good to soft; THIRD TIME LUCKI was smart novice chaser last season, including when third in the Grade 1 novice chase at this meeting; below par in November but subsequent wind surgery has helped, winning at Sandown (1m7f, good to soft) and was moving into contention when hampered two out at Cheltenham in March; can find extra back on less testing finish.
17:40 – Newcastle – Thaki – Jersey Evening Post
Conditions to suit and THAKI run with credit over same course and distance on his last two starts; sold for £5,000 last week and has joined an in-form stable; should give it another good go.
