Horse Racing Tips: Rory Delargy’s got a 40/1 fancy at Aintree on Thursday

Our FTHM podcast pundit fancies the big-price Sir Jack Yeats in the 16.05.

Rory Delargy’s Horse Racing Tips:

13:45 – Banbridge
14:20 – Scriptwriter
14:55 – Ahoy Senor
15:30 – Constitution Hill
16:05 – Sir Jack Yeats
16:40 – Pay The Piper
17:15 – July Flower

13:45 – Banbridge

BANBRIDGE didn’t run at Cheltenham and his last run was at Leopardstown in February. I’m mostly against backing horses that ran at Cheltenham and are now turning up at Aintree – and Banbridge fits into that.

I thought Stage Star was flattered during his win at Cheltenham, however, both Banbridge and Stage Star are really short prices so I’m not too keen to get involved. If I have to pick one I’d go Banbridge.

14:20 – Scriptwriter

Zenta stands out and you’ve got less concerns with her going to Cheltenham and then running here, however, she’s a short price. SCRIPTWRITER deserves a mention too as we know he’s better than his last ride at Kempton in the Adonis in February. He’s got the ability to go well and he can bounce back with Harry Cobden on board.

14:55 – Ahoy Senor

This race could depend on Shishkin as he’s the starting point. He could plant himself at the start or he could look a monster and bolt up. We don’t know what to expect from him. I was with AHOY SENOR in the Gold Cup and he was tanking along before he fell. I’ll stick with him as he’s impressed at Aintree before but it’s a tentative pick.

15:30 – Constitution Hill

The question is whether this is a race where Nico de Boinville has won on CONSTITUTION HILL early on. If he’s going to be well ahead, backing over 10 or 12 lengths might not be worth it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him bolt up and win by six or seven lengths because Nico has geared him down towards the end. Sharjah could follow Constitution Hill home.

16:05 – Sir Jack Yeats

I thought Winged Leader should have gone to Cheltenham and he might be the best of the David Christie horses. He should go well but I’m going with SIR JACK YEATS at a price. He loves jumping the national fences and he’s interesting for Fergal O’Brien. His run style will suit the track and he comes alive at Aintree. He can outrun his rating and odds.

16:40 – Pay The Piper

I want to be against Douglas Talking as all of his wins have come in really small fields. I’ve landed on PAY THE PIPER, who is a very versatile runner. I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s a two-miler so this should suit him.

17:15 – July Flower

I’ll go JULY FLOWER as a token selection but I haven’t got major fancies in this. Her sire is Pastorius and I’m interested to see how his sons and daughters get on over a few races.
