It’s a little surprising to see SYMPHORINE in a seller as she had shown some nice promise before getting stuck in the mud in her latest handicap. Fellow mare Fortune Cookie has looked up to winning races for her new yard and she’s second choice ahead of the exposed Wetherby winner First Class Return.
It’s easy to fancy a few of these. Exmoor Forest looks well handicapped if taking his improved third at Chepstow at face value and he’s on the shortlist along with Riskintheground and Gingerbred. Another who might run well is KINGS THRESHOLD, for whom this longer trip should be a big positive on his handicap debut.
Le Patron runs for a stable in tremendous form but he couldn’t justify market expectations at Plumpton last month when the return to soft ground should have suited. Preference is for GYENYAME who came on plenty for his first hurdle completion when a wide-margin winner at Wincanton last month and is open to improvement. General Medrano needs to show he wants a stiff test like this and perhaps the main danger to the selection can come from Jolly Nellerie who had fair hurdle form in France and ran as though he would come on for the run on his British debut.
Keplerian is entitled to jump better than was the case on his chase debut and this shorter trip will suit him better, but if INVESTMENT MANAGER can shrug aside his latest disappointment he may provide the answer. Shutthegate won a weak race at Chepstow but did so comfortably.
This is very open. HALDON HILL is unbeaten in staying races and he might be a hard horse for the handicapper to nail. Second choice No Hubs No Hoobs arrives in good form and ticks plenty of boxes. The Macon Lugnatic can also feature.
Another handicap that could go any number of ways. Ioupy Collonges is sure to be popular over this longer trip and is perhaps the most likely improver, but BALLYDISCO (NAP) is no less progressive and, with his latest form franked in a big way, he gets the nod. Ballymagroarty Boy and So Said I are preferred of the remainder.
Dandy Dan didn’t get round in the big one at Cheltenham and needs to show he’s in the same form as 12 months ago. Preference is for SHANTOU FLYER who will appreciate any rain that comes his way and has an excellent chance on his Festival third. Singapore Saga has a good course record and may be next best.
