Running Lion has won both of her last two races by big margins and the latest of those when carrying a penalty for the opening success at Lingfield. She has a bit of size and scope about her, so she looks guaranteed to make up into a very progressive three-year-old. She also has a couple of big race entries and is currently around 50/1 for the 1000 Guineas and that may well tighten if she gets another victory here.
Slipofthepen couldn’t have been more impressive when demolishing the opposition here by 5 1/2 lengths. He looks to cover a huge amount of ground with a massive stride and this will tell us much more as to where he is heading. However, he does look destined to be sitting at the top table.
Admittedly, it was only a three-runner contest but Kenzai Warrior’s standout performance so far was when a rock solid second to Fox Tal at Wolverhampton from a perch of 99. He’s had a couple of goes jumping and now returns to the Flat from a very attractive looking 90. He’s got form at the track and is now stepped up in distance and will be held up and played late for a big finish. He could get a slice of the pie at a massive each-way price.
Laurel only just failed to maintain her perfect 100% record when going down narrowly in the Group 1 Sun Chariot at HQ to Fonteyn. It was more impressive as she hadn’t started her career long before that, so she had come an awful long way in a very short period. She sets a clear standard on official ratings and this can prove a stepping stone to much bigger targets.
