Crowsatedappletart is the obvious starting point on the back of a smooth win at Limerick and with his rider’s claim negating the bulk of his penalty, he is bound to be popular. However, a chance is taken on the handicap debutant JOHNNY CIGAR. The latter has bumped into some pretty smart sorts in maidens and handled himself quite well, and if he copes with the ground, he could well be a step ahead of his opening mark. Stealthy Tom and The Big Chap are also interesting.

15:00 – Marvel Fan
A fascinating heat. MARVEL FAN might seem up against it in a race of this nature but she has some upside for Tony Martin, who runs two. The market strength or otherwise of All Those Years, who has had only one chase run, will be noteworthy.
15:35 – Dancing After Dark
DANCING AFTER DARK shaped very well in a Kilbeggan maiden hurdle last year and hacked up at Liscarroll. She looks hard to oppose. Barry O’Neill is a noted booking for Lar’s Lass but a bigger danger may be Glenbeg Express.
16:10 – Dundaniel
DUNDANIEL comes here in better shape than most, winning a Bandon ‘Winners Of One’ by eight lengths on his most recent start, and he looks more progressive than most here. Ahaknowyerself was a modest second at Downpatrick but impressed at Belclare previously and rates a big danger, as does Tohellortoconnacht.
16:45 – Ultimate Optimist
Held in high regard, ULTIMATE OPTIMIST has turned into a real winning machine, popping up in front in his last five starts, and it is anyone’s guess for now where his progress will end. He sets the standard and will be a tough nut to crack here. Somptueux is tried in first-time cheekpieces and looks the main danger to our selection, whilst Dinny Lacey could also make his presence felt.
17:20 – Darling
Whilst the form of his Quakerstown win is noting special, the manner in which WHAT’S UP DARLING brushed aside the market leader was pretty convincing, a victory that helped his former connections fetch £280,000 for this son of Shirocco in the ring in December, and it will be disappointing if he fails to make a winning rules debut here. Marv Michael, Beltown Lake and Chasing Chances head the dangers.
17:55 – Straight Home
This makes almost no punting appeal. The declarations cut up badly and STRAIGHT HOME might be a rare bumper winner for Timothy, if not Jody, Townend.
