Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s picks for Fairyhouse on Saturday

Ruby Walsh takes a minute off the telly to give us the benefit of his wisdom for Fairyhouse

Ruby Walsh’s Fairyhouse Betting Tips:

2:45 – Ferns Lock

Billaway eventually did what he’s threatened to do on umpteen occasions, and that was fall, at Cheltenham back in March. Patrick Mullins is riding him over Annamix and you can see why, as Annamix also fell, at the last behind Ferns Lock, at Gowran Park when he was only going to be a bad third anyway.

I think this is Ferns Lock’s to lose. He only won by three lengths when he won the Tetratema but I thought it could’ve been 33 to be honest.

3:20  – Allegorie de Vassy

Allegorie de Vassy is in good form, but she’s only 1lb ahead of Limerick Lace based on the ratings here, so this is probably not the foregone conclusion some people might think.

That said,  she had a really good run at Cheltenham behind Impervious, she’s unbeaten at Fairyhouse in here two starts and going righthanded suits her, so she should be hard to beat.

4:30 – Verdant Place

Seabank’s Bistro’s sights are lowered here after Cheltenahm, as are Favori De Champdou’s, who Jordan Gainford ran in the Albert Bartlett. Both are hard to face into, frankly, as neither landed a blow or looked like doing much at the festival, whereas Verdant Place of Pat Foley’s has been unbelieavbly progressive.

He won really well at Punchestown under Simon Torrance in January and February. Aidan Kelly takes over here to claim seven off his back. He  got a 10lb penalty for beating the  Gallant Jon Joe last time out. That drops 3lb with the jockey change, and I think he’ll be very hard to beat.

5:05  – Horantzau Dairy

Risk Belle’s probably the most interesting of Willie Mullins’ four runners here, but I’m not sure of four-year-olds’ records against the older horses in this handicap and I’d be willing to bet it ‘s not that strong.

I know she gets an allowance and whatever else but I would be concerned about a four-year-old in this.

Jazzy Matty obviously won the Boodles Fred Winter at Cheltenham, but I would be slightly csautious about facing into juveniles against older horses. Tax for MAx has been dropped  3lb for his run in the Coral cup, he’s 1lb lower than when he sixth behind Gaelic warrior at Leopardstown, but I think the handicapper jsut about has him right at 134 or thereabouts.

Power of Pause hasn’t run in two years so he’ll improve for it. So if there’s  on e of Willie’s that could be unexposed it Horantzau Dairy. Still a maiden, he’s only had  three runs for Willie and had one in France as well when he won in a flat race. He’s been second in all three starts in Ireland.

I’d say he’s improving and off 128 he could run a race.

5:35 – Arctic Fly

Pat Taaffe rode Cuta Des As on its last start at Down Royal and won well but, in all honesty, I don’t know much about that one.

West End Victory definitely surprised Patrick Mullins when it won at Thurles because he wasn’t there as he’d gone somewhere else to ride.

But I think Arctic Fly has improved a good bit since beating Sugat Cookie at Leopardstown and will be hard to beat.
