Captain Winters managed to win early on last season at Thirsk over 7f and then stepped up significantly afterwards. He ran a close third to the highly-rated Naval Power at Haydock and he may well want a touch further. However, this is an ideal starting point with some ease in the ground over the mile.

14:25 – Musselburgh – Spirit Of Light

Spirit Of Light has been keeping some high-level form over in Dubai throughout the winter, including when a close fifth in Group 3 company last time. He looks a long sprint specialist and the return to slightly easier underfoot conditions can see him return to the winners enclosure on this tight right-handed course.

15:00 – Musselburgh – Came From The Dark

A sharp 5f is ideal for the older campaigner Came From The Dark and his hold-up tactics can work perfectly as we look likely to get a strong gallop for him to finish off with his customary late move. The former champion Oisin Murphy takes the ride and he shouldn’t go home empty-handed from his trip to Scotland.

15:35 – Musselburgh – Pleasant Man (each way)

Pleasant Man threatened to be a decent performer on the level for his previous handler Roger Charlton and he has been no more than okay since being switched to the obstacles for Paul Nicholls. The return to the level can spark him back to life from an attractive looking mark just 2lb above where he was last successful on the Flat in a hot handicap at Yarmouth. He’s a decent each-way price.
