New Definition took his form to another level on his return at Lingfield over 7f and, the way he travelled that day, the drop back down to sprinting on this stiffer track should suit him perfectly. He’s already improved about 10lb from last season and shows no sign of stopping yet.
We know plenty about all of the runners in this lineup, except Nolton Cross who is stepping up in distance for the first time. That can prove his trump card. The bar is set at 101 and, granted a pinch of improvement over the new discipline, we could see this lad reach his full potential.
Notre Belle Bete’s arguably been unlucky on both his tries so far this season when caught out of his ground at Lingfield on return and then faced with an inside position at Wolverhampton on the slower part of the track. He does have to improve for the step up in distance, but the yard are red hot and he could take his form up a notch over the 10 furlongs.
Berkshire Shadow was a rocket juvenile for Andrew Balding, winning the Coventry at Royal Ascot and putting up some super performances as a three-year-old. He returned to the track in spectacular fashion at Wolverhampton and now, stepping back up in trip on a track that should play to his strengths, he can stamp his quality on the mile championship.
This looks a straight match between Queen Aminatu and Manaafith, judged on what they have both achieved so far, with the latter coming in slightly better prepared from the match fitness point of view. However, the selection has not been fully extended to win on both of her last two starts in listed company and she can take this big prize before moving further up the ladder.
I have followed Vadream very closely so far this season and she destroyed the opposition at Doncaster last time when Charlie Fellowes changed tactics with her. She’s already proven on this track and a straight 6f is perfect. She is no longer one dimensional from a pace perspective and that will make Hollie Doyle’s job a little easier tactically.
