A decent maiden. Boogie Woogie sets the standard among the Ballydoyle trio, while Star Galaxy looked on her one run last season as though she could be a decent middle distance prospect. The one to beat is AZAZAT who ran a really nice race on debut at the Curragh last autumn when touched off by a filly who ran well in Sunday’s 1,000 Guineas Trial.
Three from Ballydoyle and Moore is on the newcomer The Black Tiger which is obviously significant but DUKE CADOR ran well on soft ground at Gowran in a race that is working out quite well and gets the nod. The Prairie is another Aidan O’Brien-trained runner who showed promise at two and can’t be ruled out while Harsh also showed plenty of promise on easy ground last year.
Sunday’s course winner Cristal Cleere has leading claims but there should be more to come from SMOOTH TOM (NAP) this year and he won’t mind the ground. New Hill, a fine second at Naas at the back-end of last season, is another who merits respect.
The obvious standard-setter is Homeless Songs although ground this deep would be a concern. Buckaroo has a better chance of handling it and does go well fresh. There is no doubt on the ground though about SALTONSTALL who carried last season’s form through to an agonising defeat in the Lincoln and might have his best chance of winning one of these today.
An interesting maiden. It is interesting that Colin Keane prefers Tipsy Scholars to the stable’s Juddmonte-owned newcomer Monitola and maybe less surprising that Ryan Moore chooses Farnborough over stable companion Canute. The standard is set though by FLEETFOOT on his three summer maiden runs last year and he is the one to beat if he handles the ground.
Plenty with chances here among horses with a liking for this surface. Superior Force ran a cracker at the Curragh and makes obvious appeal, as does top-weight Loingseoir after a good run here on Sunday. Handicap debutant Cavallo Pazzo and the back to form Hightimeyouwon also make plenty of appeal. A potential long shot that appeals though is MAJESTIC COLT from a stable bang in form. He is down to a very nice mark and likes cut in the ground.
The likes of The Cola Brasil and Pulse Of Shanghai have race fitness on their side but a chance is taken with LISAMARIA who showed promise on handicap bow last year and Wayne Lordan is an interesting booking for a shrewd yard. born Invincible has trip and ground to suit and is another for the shortlist.
By soft ground influence Dragon Pulse, Dundalk winner NEVERFINDANOTHER U may be able to transfer that polytrack form to a testing surface on turf. Numidia and Wayne R Walker are put forward as dangers while the dark horse is the Murtagh-trained Theophilos who may well be a different proposition now sent handicapping.
