13:30 Burglar
There’s little in it against three of today’s rivals in terms of form but Lingfield debut winner BURGLAR seems to bring clearly the most potential, including with today’s move up in trip. The Gosden yard has already won three of the four runnings of this race. My Lion should also be suited by the 1m2f, which is more of a question for Radetsky Marsch given his pedigree. Once-raced Order Of Malta might be the one to follow the selection home, though.
14:05 Phantom Flight
Something clearly can’t have been right with PHANTOM FLIGHT when well beaten at 11-10 in an Ayr Listed event on his final start last year. A very easy handicap success at York’s Ebor meeting is the run to judge him on and he’s taken to resume his progress on this return to action. The return to 1m2f asks a different question of Secret State but he’s another 4yo who likely has his best days ahead of him and he can provide the main threat ahead of Winter Derby third Foxes Tales.
14:40 Brains
Stockpyle’s pedigree offers hope that he can take a step forward over this longer trip and he’s interesting. Naval Commander, Million Thanks and Stately Home can all call upon solid C&D form this year but BRAINS hasn’t looked back since the blinkers were refitted and he’s taken to gain win number 11.
15:15 Aztec Empire (NAP)
It’s a small but select field, including the last two Queen’s Prize winners in Sleeping Lion and Bandinelli. Improvement will probably win it, though, and there are two very strong candidates for that in AZTEC EMPIRE (nap) and Duty Of Care, with preference for the former who is the youngest in the field, easily the most lightly raced and gave a smooth performance when a hot favourite on his move up to 2m here last time out.
15:50 Fix You
Due Date (second choice) still looked to be learning on the job at Wolverhampton two weeks ago and he may be able to reverse placings with Grenham Bay. Trilby’s C&D second when last seen hasn’t been franked and it may be worth siding with the long-absent FIX YOU, who looked very promising when scooting clear at Thirsk on her 2yo debut and could yet fulfil that potential.

16:25 Cuban Breeze
A trappy sprint. CUBAN BREEZE is slipping back down the weights and is marginally preferred to her stablemate Dora Penny, although a win for any of the other three runners would come as no surprise.
17:00 Simply Sondheim
They are not the only ones of interest but this may well be between SIMPLY SONDHEIM and Chantico. The latter has potential, a useful pedigree and looks unexposed after his novice win but last season’s prolific winner Simply Sondheim is well worth this second attempt beyond 1m2f. Candy Shack is third on the list, making only her fourth appearance.
