Hul Ah Bah Loo wasn’t suited by the way the race panned out behind Mabre over C&D recently and has every chance of turning things round on 6lb better terms. This mark should be within range for Hiromichi if he settles better back up in trip, but FAT GLADIATOR (NAP) remains open to improvement over this trip from a better draw than on his comeback from a lengthy absence last time.
Provided he breaks on terms and backs up his latest effort, CATCH MY BREATH could well regain the winning thread. Non Mollare, who has a solid record at this level, is second choice ahead of Chloellie who ran well over C&D last time. A few others also have clear possibilities on these terms, provided they turn up in good form.[
Harry The Haggler and Wildfell could both be capable of better in a race in which a number are making their handicap debuts, and one in which the market will doubtless tell a tale. David’s Gift showed more in blinkers last time but this can go to EIGHT MILE, who’s started favourite the past twice and should be suited by the step back up from 6f, minus the blinkers this time.
The exposed pair Rechercher and Flash Bardot, both of whom have often made the running, again look vulnerable. Alta Comedia is perhaps the most interesting newcomer on paper and the market will help there, but as things stand ERMESINDE, whose debut win over C&D early last month has been well advertised since, is taken to defy the penalty.
Smart Boyo is consistent but has too many near-misses to his name for comfort, while the danger with serial hard-puller Mr Rumbalicious is that he won’t give himself a chance of seeing it out on this first run at beyond 1m4f. Stamina is also a concern with longstanding maiden Pledge Of Peace, so the vote goes to ALL ABOUT ALICE, who offered more in a messy affair over C&D last time.
A course and distance winner last March, SAVOY BROWN had the rest well beaten off when coming away with a progressive sort here three weeks ago and is preferred to Persian Wolf. Afternoon Tea is another to consider going up in distance again.
Typically for the grade there are more questions than answers, with Caracristi making her Polytrack debut and the longer trip a concern with the expensive-to-follow Seattle King. Midgetonamission’s record over C&D is hard to knock and a better showing wouldn’t surprise, but DASHING TO YOU, who’s been drawn wide a few times lately and is evidently well suited by switchback tracks, gets the nod.
